Have no idea what i expected but he was a lovely and blurted out i needed a hip replacement and he would do it as soon as possible !

Im so shocked - yes it would be great to be out of pain but im only 27 and despite being in pain for years hadn't been to a dr until the other week!
Seems such a huge jump !

Sorry if it sounds like im ranting - need to get it off my chest before i have to face people and get the ususal, there cant be anything wrong your only 27 - i told my friend who laughed at me so not feeling great.

    Hi Miss
    Gosh what a shock!
You must have one hell of a high pain threshold for things to have got SO bad and you hadn't even seen the DR :!:
Seriously though I should welcome you to this site and say that we are here for you to sound off to and express your worries to.
That hip replacement will be a new lease of life again! At 27 you need to be fit and mobile. They MUST think it will help or they honesstly wouldn't have suggested it.
Have you decided to go ahead?
If so have you got a date for it?
I do wish you the very best and hop you will keep us up to date.
    Take care

    Hi Missi

I wish you all the best with your hip replacement. There are others on the "young people's forum" who have had hips and knees replaced at your age and much younger. It may help if you have a browse through that section.

    Luv
    Elna x
The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

Hi, That must have been a shock :!: You must have been in such pain for a long time to get to that stage :( But at least they are doing something about it quickly, and once you get over the op, you'll be so much better, I'm sure. Lots of luck and love Sue

Hi Miss i, I had a diagnose and told that my wrist should be fused in the same consultation. I know sort of how you feel about it being a shock but mine obviously wasnt as bad as yours. Good luck but if you need more time to think about it just tell the Dr.

Hello again, I understand the shock. I had the same experience with a hystorectomy when I was 30 and just about to get married. After years of being told 'All women have painful periods' I believed it and when a new gp sent me to hospital for tests I was gobsmacked! After having the op, I felt so much better that I coped with all the implications and felt so grateful to have a new lease of life. I'm sure you'll feel the same, but it will take time. You've had a SHOCK and thats an a condition in itself! Take care and lots of luck. Sue :):):)

Hi miss_l what a shock to be told that you need a new hip at 27,but
they don't give them to someone of your age lightly,so be guided by the people who know, and ask what would happen if you don't have it done now, maybe it will be too damaged if left too long.
We'll all be thinking of you.

    Hi,

I had mine done at 26 - I took it back packing for three weeks round Iceland a few years later. I've had 19 years of dramatically improved mobility before its finally given up.

Get it done and ignore the cretins.

    Good luck,

    Teresa

    Hi missi
I am 40 and have been diagnosed with OA and bilateral hip dysplasia a few months ago. I have been told i need a hip replacement asap too. I have 2 young children and want to be more mobile to play with them. I too have had silly comments like `no, you`re too young for that!` Well i`m not flippin making it up am I!!!! I hope you come to decision soon and if you ever want to chat or rant! you know where i am. :)

the docs are all different my one dont go by exrays but by the amount of pain you in before i had mine done i had a couple of steroid injections and had a good few weeks of pain relief perhaps your doc thinks because your young you should not have to put up with pain and wants to make it better for you it must be bad for him to do it straight away normaly they put you off annalisa x

Well done Teresa. Shows us all what can be done.

If you need a new hip, age doesn't matter. You still need one.
