Hi,
I'm having a flare (I think?). I've had problems with various joints for 23yrs now but this past year has to be rated as the worst yet. I've been steadily getting worse and now I'm scared because I feel that although I've had problems for years, the symptoms I have now have 'came on' very rapidly and getting harder to bear.
My ankles are very sore. It feels like I've been hit with something on both sides of ankle-right on the bone. My feet are sore and swollen with chipolatas for toes! My knees are sore, hot and swollen! I've still got usual pains in lower back/ hips and ribs. My jaw is better than it was but lately the pain has been creeping back. My shoulders are clunking and even stirring some sauce whilst making dinner was agony. I feel like I'm 79, not 39!! I'm sorry for having a strop but it would be good to hear how others cope when their whole body is affected. I just want to lie down and sleep. I've never been this bad before. Thanks,
Magenta x

Hi Magenta, for a start I would see your gp and ask for some strong painkillers, my gp gives me Tramadol when I am in a flare, I would also suggest you tell your Rheumy nurse, if you have one, or get on to your Rheumy's secretary, so they can tell your Rheumy how you are feeling, perhaps they can alter your medication, hope this helps love Jaspercatxxx

    Hi Magenta,
Gosh, sorry you feel so bad. Do take care and get some good painkillers & rest. I know that easy for me to say, but with work and family ect. but you must think of yourself for their sake as well as yours! Lots of love and well wishes Sue xxx

Hi Magenta, sorry to hear your in a dark patch. How do you tell a woman how to cope i just dont know. It must be so hard being the centre of the family and feeling so ill with all that pain. i too have had RA and PA for a very long time 1980 but only bad the last three years. I have it from head to foot including muscles ribs chest and collar bones and back. At times i'm really scared, I find the only way to ease it when i get a flair is bed and increased steroids. At the moment i have a chest infection to go with it and its not nice. Perhaps if you contact the nurse she will talk to Rheumy and get you a steriod injection that helps most people. I find the other problem you get when you are having a bad time is it plays with your mind and you begin to think all sorts of things, your in so much pain and feel like sh-t yet you have to put a brave face on for the family. Hopefully it wont be to long and you'll get sorted. do take care and i know its hard but try to rest up. feel for you keep your chin up.

Hi Magenta - nothing to add to the previous excellent advice but just wanted to send you a gentle electronic hug and say that I hope you're feeling better soon. Take care.

    Thanks everyone,
I'm still feeling the same :( Also feeling a bit sick and 'done in'. My hubby has been wonderful, he's cooked every single breakfast, lunch and dinner this weekend. I haven't even had to make a cup of tea for myself. I think he's seen me getting worse lately and I know he's worried about me. He's been great recently and so have the kids but I feel rotten for them  I'm going to my rhuemy next week for a day review appt. but as yet I don't have a rhuemy nurse-don't know if I ever will? Hopefully I'll feel better soon. Thanks everyone,
