Anybody doing Pilates in this forum? I am having problem mastering the basic breathing techniques. I do not seem to understand what I am supposed to do on breathing out "zip and hollow or scoop or hollow". I am using a DVD by Lynne Robinson, an introduction to Pilates. There is no Pilates class in my area. Can somebody tell me in simple terms what I am supposed to do. Thanks

Hi
When I was doing pilates I just breathed as normal. The excersises were so gentle that thats what I was told. I did tend to hold my breath until all parts back on floor but that was just me
I think if you are using weights you breath in as you pull up and out on the down movement but not sure.

i loved my pilates classes and was lucky to have 2 great teachers but they liked to make you work no slacking in the class, there is no way i could do one of there classes now.
it's not easy technique to master and it took me ages to get it right but then am blonde
it means that you suck you tummy in makes you tummy hallow and zip means pull your pelvic floor up (like when you stop yourself having a wee) at the same time! like rubbing your tum and patting your head! this gives the support to do the moves.
good luck

Thanks Suzie, it's just having problem co-ordinating breathing technique with exercises. I have been watching the demonstration on you tube as well, and am off to the library to get some books.0
