Hi Everyone.
I am new to this site. I hope someone has some advice that can help me. I am 35 yrs old. I had my ankle fused 6 months ago and I am still on cructhes all the time and am struggling to walk, I am not expecting micrales, but was wondering how long on crutches did anyone who had had ankle fusion spend? (I haven't had any physio) Also, following op my foot is slighty malpostioned and I am walking on my big toe, anyone else had this problem, if so any advice on how to cope with it. Any info greatly recd
Thanks
Debbie

I havent had my ankle fused so I cant help with this....sorry. However I would have thought that you should have physio?? I have to have my wrist fused and have been told that it will be at least 3 months recovery including physio. I think may be you should insist on it. Good luck

Hi Debbief I have not had an ankle fusion but have had a THR and know of some who have anlkes etc done and to me also it does seem like a long time on crutches mine only lasted about 8 weeks on crutches and as others have said physio sounds important to being in place have you been back for an after op check up etc you could ask advice from the AC helpline they have great experince on most things arthuritis0

Hi Debbie,
I, too, think that you shouldn't still be on crutches and your foot sounds as though it's not in the correct position for weight bearing. Didn't you have a follow-up appointment after your op (usually about six weeks) and if so, was your surgeon happy with things? You ought to contact your surgeon or his/her secretary just to be on the safe side

Thanks for info.
As well as having OA I also have CP on the side I had fused. Was in plaster for 4 months. Went back after a month because of toe problem, but was advised to wear MBT's. Said that I was struggling but was told they had expected that. Am going back in 1 month. Going to try again for physio. Let u know how I get on. Any advice on getting to grips with MBT's?
Thanks

I'm sorry but I don't know what MBTs are - suppose they could be Motorised Boots  that would be fun
