minor stroke

Hi,
I have just come out of hospital after having suffered with a minor stroke. The only symptoms I had were pins and needles in my arm and leg for 20 mins. I have been told that a stroke and RA go hand in hand and RA sufferers are much more likely to have one. Has any one else suffered one.. and how do you get over this horrible feeling that you are on a downward spiral. I am 51, live on my own and feel really fed up and lonely.

HI
Aw sorry to hear your not feeling good, try to keep your chin up and look at it this way it was a minor stroke and now you are aware that it can happen and it has happened to you, so move forward and look after yourself as best you can form here on, its a shock when you find out another thing that can follow on from the ra I am new to all this but we cant let it get us down for too long, as they say life goes on and we have to take all that it throws at us along the way.
I better stop rambling now.
You take care.

Hi Jane,
You're not on a downward spiral you're just having a blip at the moment. I think people with long-term health problems such as us are probably susceptible to alot of other illnesses and at the end of the day it's the luck of the draw. I had a health scare last year and was told that as a rheumatoid I was more likely to suffer from this particular illness (which I won't name as certain people would worry about it) fortunately my tests were clear.
I hope you feel better very soon and remember you're not alone as you have your cyber friends here Sending you electronic hugs ((((( )))))

Hi Jane yes i supose it can be quite scary but as legs says its the luck of the draw. If you have Ra it does not mean you will have a stroke its just that your chances are increased but goes for most other medical problems. "Oh to be normal hey" I'm so sorry to hear you haven't been well and are feeling down and alone. Your going through it a bit arn't you, Plenty of support hear they are a great crowd. Have you not got any family or friends you can get to come and stay a day or two to try and take your mind off things. I know you will be feeling scared try keep yourself ocupied This site is great for that. Well take care love and keep your chin up

Hello,
Its no wonder you feel down! You've had a shock, and its bound to have some effect on you, as it must have been very frightening. I think, when you come home from hospital it takes time to adjust to being home with no medical care on hand. I know thats how I felt after having an op. I'd been driving everyone mad asking to go home but when I got home..... Anyway, I'm sure you'll soon feel better. Love and best wishes Sue.0 -
Aw Jane, I am sorry this has happened to you. I live on my own and can just imagine how I would feel in your situation. Hopefully you will regain your confidence which I am sure has taken a huge dent as a result of this. Thinking of you and hope you feel better soon. Linda0

sorry to hear your news, and that you are feeling down right now - not surprising really!
When you have had time to think about things a bit more, maybe you will want to try and take charge of things you can do to lessen teh risks of any more minor strokes.
I'm not sure exactly what would be best, your GP could help (or even the Arthritis Care helplines) but I'm thinking about diet, exercise etc - anything you do to take charge really does make a difference. maybe one extra portion of veg each day, or a short walk each morning. They may not seem like big things, but every little helps and it will help you to feel more in control of your life.
