    Hi
I also have been told that I have a high level of Calcium in my blood after it showing up in a few blood tests. I am being referred to a specialist to see what action needs to be taken if anything. The Rheumy doc said she is not an expert on this and would need to refer me but I have not had an appointment yet.
Have you been referred to see anyone about this?

    Hi
Blood tests I had done before Christmas came back with high calcium levels. I was tested for parathyroid problems but it came back clear. Don't think anything else is going to be done now so I'll just have to live with it. Has anyone mentioned osteopenia as I have that and I think it's due to high calcium levels.

    Hi Vonski
I am going for a Bone Density Scan next Wednesday as the doc mentioned Osteoporosis because this is linked I think with the Calcium levels and my sister has been diagnosed with Osteoporosis which is a shame as she is only 44 but had a hystrectomy in her ealry 30's due to problems with her overies.

    Hello Mary
Thanks for your reply. I was sent for a bone density scan and have just got the results back. I have not got osteoporosis but some thinning of my forearm bones, but not enough to be called osteoporosis. He said he would discuss this with me on my next meeting. I have a over active parathyriod gland and has told me it would be best to have it taken out. I am 50 and on border line whether to leave it alone and monitor it or have surgery. Just had radioactive scan on my neck( think thats right name). Waiting now to hear from him. There are different reasons for calcium in blood and yours maybe something else. best wishes yorkie.

    Hi Vonski,
I'm male, 53, with OS and 60+ fractures and with a goodly dose of OA all over, a lot of my OA may be due to poor repair of injuries over the years, but no known connection seems to exist. We are susceptible to it and thats that.

We may search for an answer to our lives that isn't there at this stage in time, hard to accept, research will get there before we do.

    Hi Yorkie

I had bone density scan and that was ok which was a relief. Sounds like you may have osteopenia. I was told that this is like a mild version of osteopososis. The bones are thinner but not enough to be called osteoporosis. It can be caused after injury, lack of use or not to alarm anyone over use of steroid injections. I've had and still would have injections as I know they are careful about how many you have. Hope everything goes ok with you.

Airwave I have oa too due to car crash. Managed to smash my feet so the bones have always rubbed together. Told over 20yrs ago I had bones of a 90yr old but all 90yr olds I know can move much faster than me :) Also have it in other parts of body but like you say we must keep :) ing, or sometimes it could be a grimace :)

    Hi Yorkie

Interesting as I have the opposite, low calcuium and low parathryorid hormone (I had most of my thyroid removed 12 years ago) I am suspecting that some of my parathyroids were either removed or damaged also in the op. Also low vitamin D. I am in the early phases of RA.

    Hi Yorkie

Just wondered if you'd found a link for osteopenia and if you did was it any help? Have you got anyfurther or are you still waiting to find out what happens next.

    Good luck

    Airwave

Do you still manage a bit of exercise? I do a few chair execises. Had to give the gym up a while ago but I was limited to what I could use. I miss it though

    mmarshall

Have you had any results from you scan, how did it go? Hope it wasn't too bad and that you got or get good news.

    Love Vonski x

    Yorkie

Only diclofenac and co-codamol at the moment, as only been to the rheumy twice, and all my tests arent thru yet. MRI etc and extra bloods, plus he has referred me to an endocrinologist because of the low PTH, calcium etc. You know what its like getting any diagnosis in this game!!

Interestingly google has come up with lots of links with parathyroid, vitamin d, calcium and RA, and also kidney stones (which have had for 20years). Let me know if you get to the bottom of it all, I would be interested.
