So my Dad has RA and he dropped the name Voltoral (Diclofenac) into the conversation.

I also told him about the injection he can get for his elbow (thanks to Elnafinn & Lindalegs) in which he brushed off saying it wasn't causing him so much grief at the moment and he'll sort it when he comes back to England which may be looking more like April now. Do you think thats safe or should I be nudging him a bit more on that one?

It was really good to speak to him last night because he sounded happy that he'd had a good day at the cafe and that he was going to celebrate by watching Corrie AND the football. His knee has been better and he can bend it slightly too.

    Hi Shelley

Pleased for you that you feel happier after your last convo with your dad. Diclofenac is a good med although it can irritate the stomach but there are alternatives one can take or there is a pill to take to counteract the discomfort. I got on well with Diclo for 2 years but then changed to another med.

If your dad can wait until he gets back to England for treatment then that would be great. He need not worry about the expense like he has to in Spain. Let's hope it is bearable for him until he gets here.

    Luv
    Elna x

Hi. So glad your Dad is ok. As Elna said diclofenac is good, I take that. The tablet Elna mentioned is Omeprazole which counters the stomach irritation. You take just the one every morning. You only need to take this if you will be on diclofenac long term which I'm assuming he will be. The main thing is though, your Dad will know you are concerned and want whats best for him. You sound like your approaching things in the right manner. Please keep us updated on his progress if it's convenient and hope he gets the cafe sold. x

    Hi Shelley,
    Glad to meet you!
Sounds like your Dad is a stubborn and determined person :!:  Well this should stand him in good stead :!:
I agree with elna diclofenic is a good non steroid anri inflamatory. I din't get on with it (belly probs!), bur wished I could have done as others have found it really effective.
I hope your Dad gets back home soon and then you'll feel much better too :!:
    take care

.........as a footnote Shelley don't forget good old paracetamol. Although it's a common drug it is very effective especially when taken regularly and allowed to build-up in your system. When I'm going through a bad patch I take it every six hours then I've got it throughout the night too - should I need it.

Hey all, sorry i've not nipped back on since posting this morning. Just after I read Elnafinn's reply the boiler man came so finally got hot water and central heating back, whoo hoo.

Anyway, Thankyou for your suggestion about Omeprazole Eckstardeluxe, will ask him if he's had it before and if he doesn't know what im talking about i'll suggest he brings it up when he next goes to the doctors over there, see if they have it there. It said on the net that sometimes you can even get types of it over the counter??

Frogmorton, glad to meet you too and sorry to hear you didnt get on with those diclofenac. He has been on it for awhile, he calls it the old faithful even though he has had minor problems with it. He has tried so many and one was steroid based and his weight shot up even though he doesn't eat a thing (he said the other day he'd had a bit of toast and a bag of nuts....when i said 'Daaaaaaad!' down the phone he added 'oh and two digestive biscuits' as if it made it a square meal or something) :)

He takes water tablets for swelling in his ankles and lower legs and he has high Blood Pressure too, but every time he always goes back to his old faithful. I will remind him again Lindalegs about normal para's, he's got no excuse now my sis has sent him the pack with RA heat pads, paracetamol and savlon for his 'weird elbow' haha.

Thanks again for all your support, it really does help having you to telling me the in's and out's. You guys are the real professionals.
