Hello everyone,

I thought that I'd share with you what I find works for my pain. It's the only thing that gets me through the night sometimes! It's a hot - cold pad which you can put in the freezer or microwave. Whichever helps you. I have it frozen, and it relieves my neck and shoulder pain. (Perhaps I just can't feel the pain because I've frozen my neck). I've tried it hot but I can't stand that on my neck when it's inflamed. It's funny because I thought with arthritis I shouldn't like the cold. Another plus is that it can keep your hubbie in his own side of the bed so you don't have to put up with him bumping you in the night!(only joking). That's another thing, I get fed up moaning at my husband every night to move that leg or arm as it hurts when he tries to snuggle up! Although I want to snuggle up it's painful. Love Jo xx

    Hi Jo
I have to be cold too, if I get to warm I get a lot of swelling but I thought you had to keep warm with oa. Infact when I was in hospital the sister told me I must keep warm or make it worse. The sleeping quote made me laugh. I'm always pushing my husband over his own side. It's always worse if he's had a drink, If I think he's had to much he's in the spare bed :) Oh by the way is it oa or ra you have?

I like the hot, but can understand that you like the cold, as cold helps reduce inflamation. Maybe I'll try cold, I'm a wimp   Sue

Hi thanks for the advice. I tried the Thermacare wrap last week for my OA spinal pain and it was brilliant, only problem is single use and two in pack. Have saved the other one for my first day back at work after mat leave. I had posted the other day about my shoulder, I tried a hot pack and it did nothing. I'll definitely try the cold one on my shoulder, thanks

wish you could buy the ice ones in the shops too!!!
I'm with Scottishlass in that I need ice when joints are inflamed - bliss isn't it - but ice is just not portable :!:
    Hope you're all doing ok

I think you're right about cold being best, my oa does get inflammed when its really bad and I can't take anti inflams as I've had an ulcer caused by them, so the consultant told me. :( But heat helps as it deadens the nerve and I have a bone spur touching a nerve in my neck. I do overdo it though and found a blister on my back the other day  Trouble is I prefer the pain of the burn to the oa  :!: I'll try cold though because the same principle works :!:  Love Sue

    Hi all,

I should have mentioned that I got my pads from ebay and you can keep reusing them so it's cheaper. I got 2 with free covers, but the actual ones that I got arn't on there but there are loads more that are practically the same. They are called Hot - Cold Packs on ebay and are only a couple of pounds. (Alot cheaper than the throw away ones). The covers are handy, saves you wrapping them in a towel. I have only just been diagnosed with Inflamatory Arthritis, they havn't been any more specific than that, although they say I have bad wear and tear in my neck. Nice to hear from you all. Love Jo

freeze foam mini coffee cups full of water

tear off top inch once frozen

use this to massage ice over area

apparently ice nums the area.....this firstly reduces pain...but also rest of boy reacts to cold...brain says...that foot is very cold...send blood there ....after you have finished icing , the blood rushes in , increasing circulation and improving blood supply to sore and painful areas

    so they say
