    Hi Michelle
I take morphine too. I take 20mg morphine sulphate tabs morning and night, and have oromorph liquid to take for breakthrough pain. I don`t find that it makes me stay awake if I`ve woken with pain and taken the oromorph, however I am taking other meds which can make me drowsy so maybe they help to make me go back over to sleep. I find that it helps with pain though.

    Hi
I have 'morphine' patches which don't keep me awake at all. I think they are called Buprenorphine or Butrans if you want to look them up. They release the dose very slowly over a week then you change the patch. The beauty of them is that it isn't going through the digestive system. You can have small, medium or large patches. Hope this is of some use.

I've only ever given morphine to elderly patients and one of the side effects was making them sleepy, but we're all different and react differently. Sometimes the dose needs to be reviewed by your GP, as the body gets used to it. So mabe your dose is no longer effective? I'm not a medic, just a carer trained to give medication. :) Sue

The Morphine does take the pain away and I haven't taken it long enough to become immune to the dose that I have as I got a prescription for 30 and have only taken about 5 I have decided to only take them through the day but that puts driving out of the window and it will make me housebound lol. I don't want to take it all the time but I would like it to take the edge off the pain and still be able to sleep as well

hi, i to take morphine. i take zomorph tablets 30mg morning and night and have oramorph for when i need abit extra. i find the oramorph makes me sleepy, i tend to take it either when out and in pain eg. if i have to walk anywhere i need extra to keep the pain down otherwise i wouldn't walk at all. i also take it at night if pain is bad.
my gp has told me to try lowering my dose, i was taking 40mg morning and night and i'm now down to 30mg, i had to take it slow redusing the dose but i have found my pian harder to cope with.
like others i take amitriptyline at night to help me sleep.
sorry i'm not much help really! but morphine does make me sleepy, it's the pain that keeps me awake.
