Splints

Hello,
My left wrist and hand are causing me probs. Had to drive a bit today so I wore my brown splints. I've got it on just now and I'm getting a weird pulsing pain travelling up my inner arm that's only started today. Don't know if it's coincidence or it's been the splint. I wore it for a bit last night and my pinky finger went numb  I wonder if anyone out there who has carpel tunnel and wears splints, gets these too?

I wonder if the splint is too tight, have they fitted you with the right size? I ended up buying my own splint, it is made of stay cool material and is a little shorter than the one the NHS gave me and is much lighter. Perhaps your splint is rubbing just at the wrong place which I also occasionally find in =s a problem. Linda0

Hi magenta
I think they may be a little tight on you, you only have to have it a bit tight in one spot and it can cause probles.
Because of the steel running through it it should not be to tight as its just to help stop you using and support the joint. Something i think i should tell you though I dont think it is legal to drive with your splints on and if you are involved in an accident it could void your insurance. However i had to drive today and wore both mine lol

OOP'S! Thanks Colin-didn't know that! I don't think they are too tight? If I have them looser then they don't offer any support to my wrist. I'm actually getting the numbness back in pinky and I'm not wearing my splint-think it's probably my elbow nipping my ulnar nerve again :!: Hey ho :?

Hi It sounds as if the splint is too tight. Also, If you've been driving the position of your hands may be pressing on a nerve or blood vessel. I can't drive in mine as they restrict my movement too much. I may try buying a smaller splint, I've seen them advertised. When mine was fitted the ot some people find them too painful to wear, as the nerve is nearer the surface Love Sue0

Hiya,
Don't think the numbness has anything to do with splints. Been getting it really bad in left hand-little finger very numb and painful. Can't lie on my left side anymore without getting this feeling. Went for a nap today after my hour long walk to drs  and even lying on my back, I get the numbness and tingling, then pain- in both hands. My elbows are very sore. Honestly, what else can go wrong?
I'm not down today, actually quite upbeat. Even with the pain, I managed outside and played with kids-had a snowball fight and we made a snow-cat! I was quite proud of myself, walking to drs and it was peaceful!!
Trying to get a new OT appointment and I'll see what they can do. Can you get splints for elbows?

Re Splints and driving, My insurance firm were fine As long as I contacted DVLA and I did, they sent me a letter stating its ok to continue driving with my splints, they say to keep it with my insurance to prove I had contacted them. Linda0

Hi magenta, My hairdresser had a splint on her elbow to support it until she had an injection. I think her problems are to do with her work, but shes fine now. Sue0

Thanks everyone,
It's funny, my mum was just talking about the wax thing today. I had it done at a homeopathic hospital years ago-it was lovely. I prefer heat to cold- are the bath things expensive?
Sue, was meaning to ask you-with carpal tunnel-do your hands get sore, over the top of them?

Hi Magenta, My hands get sore over the front of the hand, it feels as if its been bashed with a hammer, when its really bad and also my joint under my thumb and running up the side of it is a sort of tingling feeling. The back of my wrists hurt too and my finger joints, but some of this is oa. Its hard for me to know which is which . My hands were bad yesterday and today as well as my hip joint feeling very weak. Last night it just folded up under me as I walked across the room (no alchahol involved, unforunatly  ) I think this cold, damp weather makes it worse. Last night I'd just come in and it was snowing ) Roll on spring!
Wax baths are great, the physio used to have one, and she'd let us use it during our break. Mmm great for the skin! . LoveSuexx_0 -
Hi Sue,
The pain you're talking about with your hand is exactly what I'm experiencing. I describe it too like someone has bashed me on the top of my hand. Last night, everything was sore, especially wrists and little finger. When I pressed the area at base of thumb, it was excrutiating! Banged my elbow today and it then caused pain going into my middle finger. All my fingers (worst on left) are now bending inwards  I now have to wait for 7wks or so before anyone will be able to do anything :?
