Hi Yorkie, as far as I am aware the DLA dosen't affect any wages that you might earn, but I am sure other people will be able to help further love Jaspercatxx

    Hi,
Yes, I think DLA is a benefit that anyone can claim, its not means tested, just depends on passing a medical. I think their are 3 levels of payment, depending on your ability, which they decide. Sue

I AM ON SSP NOW, DO I HAVE TO WAIT TILL I GET ESA (INCAP) BEFORE I CAN APPLY? DO YOU HAVE TO BE ON THIS BEFORE I APPLY? I THOUGHT TO GET DLA YOU HAD NOT TO BE ABLE TO PUT YOUR SOCKS ON, AND FEED YOURSELF. WHEN I HAVE RANG OVER THE YEARS THATS WHAT THEY HAVE ASKED ME, AND I GAVE UP AND NEVER TRIED. READIND POSTS ON HERE I`VE READ PEOPLE WORK SO THEY MUST BE ABLE TO PUT THERE SOCKS ON?
IS DLA VERY DIFFERENT TO DISABILITY? MAYBE I`VE RANG WRONG DEPARTMENT IN PAST?
THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY TO YOU ALL.. YORKIE

Yorkie, you can get DLA as long as your condition has lasted more than 6 months and is liable to continue. You get it for various things.

ie. I get low care as I do not need continuous care day and night. Also I am able to use aids such as bath lift etc.
I get high rate mobility due to walking issues and poor upper body strength combined with painful spinal spasms.
Job Centre advise I can continue to get it if I return to work if I continue to have the same problems. Linda

Yorkie DLA is Disability Living Allowance, you do not need to be on any benefits to claim or even be off sick from work,if you have a disabling condition and you meet the criteria then you could be awarded, there are 2 sections,Mobiliy and care, with 3 rates in each low, middle n high....as far as i know low rate care is awarded tp people who need help with a substantial amount of the day,i have read that substantial can be as low as an hour or 2..EG,with RA typicaly in the morning a lot of people cant dress themselves or get in/out a bath, but maybe could manage later in the afternoon, but that fact they need help for those first few hours in the day qualifys for low rate care,or if someone has difficulty preparing a meal for themselves they would qualify(around £17 a week),there is an online application available.
Try this link for DWP ,see if there is anything useful there

THANKS FOR THE REPLY. BEST WISHES ..YORKIE

VERY WELL DONE, at this rate you'll be in the London Marathon, if not the 2012 olympics. :D Sue
