I have been taken off diclofenac after being told I may have had a slight stroke. At the reumy earlier in the month and complained about numbness in my left arm. I thought it may be attributed to my RA but she was of the opinion it may have been a slight stroke. UT scan of the neck showed nothing untoward. Was thinking of asking to go back taking diclofenac as my feet now are painful. Taking Enbrel and MTX. I feel the diagnosis was a bit extreme without checking my RA first. Definitely gave me a fright. I am now of the opinion that I will be refused diclofenac as long term use is now known to cause complications. Any one had a similar experience.

    Hi
I take diclofenac and at my pre op assessment was found to have high blood pressure, (although has been ok at home :? ) My gp has started me on blood . Diclofenac can cause you to have raised bp, which obviously is linked with stroke. It is a shame that it wasn`t fully investigated regarding your RA though. I would discuss it again with your dr. You need to sort your pain out! (well, your dr does!! )

    Hi

Sorry to hear you're having problems, my GP took me off diclofenic a while ago saying the same about it causing an increase in heart problems - he did change me to naproxen which I manage quite well with. Might be worth having another chat with your doctor

    Hi
If you mean high blood pressure tablets and diclofenac, then well yes I am taking amlodipine and diclofenac at the moment, as prescribed by my gp.
I am going to be seen by my gp tomorrow to have dosage reviewed.

    Thanks NB

Have been getting on OK until I was taken off diclofenac. Hopefully will be able to find an able substitute and get back to reasonable level of tolerance. Have got a few pointers now to discuss with the Dr, again thanks.

    Ninewells,
Be guided by your gp and there is a tablet akin to the diclofenic results that doesn't have the side effects, it negins with a n but I'm brain dead and cant remember what comes after the n!
Loulou, looking at the post re diclo I fink you and me's just lucky! I been on them for 20 years and except for a couple of ulcers I've been fine! I take omoprozole as well now an since I also got crohns who knows what gave me the ulcer. I also have very low bp so I'm very lucky.

Hi Skezier, I was on ibroprofen for ages and only diclo for last year, but so far no probs! It was suggested i try omoprozole but haven't so far.
That 'n' wouldn't be naproxin would it?

    Hi Loulou,
Take the omoprozole, zooton any of those as the ulcers don't half hurt! The n thing could well be that, I really am brain dead I have been for a while! I have a good Rumo, he wont let my gp's take me off the diclo as they work! I have tranadol and pregabalin as well nd its all good stuf! Oh and the slow release diclo are 'safer' than the 4x a day ones. It's nice to meet you by the way! :P

    Hi,
About 15 or so years ago I had to stop taking diclophinc as my ulcer, (which at the time I didn't know I had), perforated and I spent a month in hospital! I know a lot of people can take then and have no problems at all, and thats fine, but any indications that they are not the best thing for you and I'd take the GP's advice.

Anyone reading this, please don't be scared. I had sicky, hunger pains, and I ignored them, not realising that the meds where causeing them. Also tummy pains, which I took more diclo to ease :!: So, looking back I did have warnings, but didn't know what they were. Love Sue.

    Thanks for the advice everyone.
The reason I am asking is because the Reumy was more concerned with the cause of the numbness in my arm and my being in a surprised, or shocked state of mind , did not enquire about any alternative med. Only by not taking diclofenac did I realise the benefit I had as regards level of pain and discomfort.
P.S. I have been on diclofenac for 20+ years with no problems at all.

    Hi,
I think you need to discuss this with either the rheummy or your GP. You need some pain relief and they should be able to help you have the choose the right drug. Love SUE
