Hi All
Just looking for some of your experienes regarding methetrexate. I started taking this and my plaquenil last friday and since saturday morning I have felt so unbelievably sick. I have only been sick a few times but that horrible feeling is constantly there. To be honest I didnt really think anything of it until last night when my mum suggested it could have something to do with the meds. I thought I had just picked up some sort of bug or something.
Basically Im wondering if any of you have had these symptoms and do they go away?! I am not even on half of what my dose will be and am slightly concerned that as my dose increases so will the sickness.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks

Hiya sorry you are feeling so bad with it, I am the same with methotrexate are you taking folic acid just once a week or 6 days a week? When I told my rheum that I was struggling with the nausea she upped my folic acid to 6 times a week so maybe mention to them. Not sure if I would say it goes away but you deal with it better!
Hope you feel better soon0 -
Hi, welcome to the forum, everyone here is very friendly and helpful, there are lots of people on MXT who can help, for myself I was on 20mg MXT tablets for a few years, I always felt really sick and was actually sick a few times, you could ask your gp to give you anti-emetics or sickness tablets, they would help alot.
It was cured for me by going onto injections but you have to try the tablets first, the other option is to get in touch with your Rheumy nurse, if you have one, and tell them how you feel, hope this helps love Jaspercatxxx0 -

it could be the MTX but it could also be that you've picked up a bug...there are quite a few nasty sickness ones going round
I spent the other weekend being sick for 12 hrs and feeling unwell for about a week but it was just coincidence that it followed me taking my MTX dose...took the next one and all was fine ( I was worried as i have just restarted it after a break to have a baby)
so if its still bothering you go speak to your GP/rhemy/ nurse but please also bear in mind it might just be something you've picked up, especially as being on these types of meds can make you a little more susceptible
hope that helps0 -
Awww thank you all for your lovely replies. I feel..............well truely rotten! Went out for a lovely family meal and MIL told me that she had never seen anyone looking so awful.....nothing like kicking someone when they are down! Lol
Managed to eat my dinner.........took my tablets and had literally just swallowed the last one and had to make a mad dash to the toilet. Was so sick and just wished I was at home! Although strangely I did actually feel slighly better after I had been sick.
I phoned the out of hours doctor as I was unsure what to do about my tablets. He told me to take my folic acid again as I had literally just swallowed it and not to worry about the others.
Feeling so horrible but just keep telling myself that hopefully it will all get better!!0 -
Hi Parky, I'm so sorry i know how it feels i'm on methotrexate injections along with other stuff. I have been on it for over 3 years now and it still makes me feel awfull. problem is i can't do without it.
its a good drug when it works and not all get bad side effects. you need to give it some time to start working on you and you can get anti sickness tablets along with the folic acid.
Take care
