Sorry to hear of your problems with sulphasalazine.
I was on them for a year but had to stop taking them.
As I developed peripheral neuropathy loss of feeling in my feet.
As sulphasalazine can be neurotoxic,
But I would not think that peripheral neropathy has developed
In your case as you have only been taking them for a short while.
It is best to have a word with your GP good luck.0 -
Hi Joanne,
Sorry to hear you're not well. I've never been on sulphasalazine but I was nearly prescribed it recently  Hope you get to the bottom of things and you start to feel better soon.

i agree here..let your gp know of this soon as possible..you have to get to bottom of this before it gets any worse.

Hi Joanne,
I'm starting sulfalazine today, they're sitting on my desk and I'm just working up the courage to take them. Was on plaquenil before and only lasted 2 weeks before the itchy rash from hell started so a bit nervous about possible side effects but can't live like this do anything is worth a go, I think......

Hi Joanne
It sounds like you have some of the sdie effects of sulpha. This is quite normal in the beginning as your body adjusts to the dose. If you can imagine it getting into your immune system and trying to get hold of the inflammation, your body will fight that in the beginning and the battle makes you feel rough. As the does builds up, your body will begin to get used to it and things should settle down. I remember the 12 weeks if headaches, nausea and generally feeling rough, but for me it was worth it in the end as it really worked out well for me.
Obviously if you are concerned, then speak to your GP or Rheumy but I think that they should settle down. Drink plenty of water and I found that if I drank tea in the morning afer taking them that made me feel really really sick. Peppermint tea is good for the nausea - you could try that.
Hope you start to feel better soon. I know that it is scary time when starting out on dmards and it is trial and error to get the right combination - but it is worth it in the end.
Hugs (((((((((((((((())))))))))))))))))

Thanks for all of your comments. it is hard to know what to do for the best. today my left hand and arm have been numb all day and my left foot. and ive felt hot and i felt sick this morning but no dizzy spells. i have been to collage and done a first aid course and just find it an odd feeling as when ive had numbness in past it passes after a few hours or when ive exercised. i explained my odd sensations to the other students as i had to fiddget a lot more and rub my arms as they had all got disabulities of one type or another no one bats an eyelid as they are an under standing lot but im worryed i will worry other people in my family and this will worry me. i rang the help line to me hospital and they said if i still felt ill to drop to one next week and they would build it up again more gradual. i was sat next to another lady at collage who has had a stroke and that has gone through me mind as i feel so weird. i have to see if it will pass though. i am due at hospital next week and am keeping a diary of these new symtoms as as me sleep is effected also. which i have had before i will just have to see how it goes but i need something. thanks any way shall let you know how i get on from joanneJoanne0

Hi Joanne sorry your not well and feeling so down, the whole thing is a pain in back side. At times i wonder whats worse the illness or the medication. I was on the sulpha years ago and boy those head aches where bad. I never done very well on it and was taken off after 6 months. You know what its like its a trial and error thing untill they find something that works. Anyway Joanne just wanted to say hi and hope your feeling better soon.
