Morning folks :D ,

Well my hand op was a success. My fingers are now deviated no more ( hurahhh! ). Although it does smart a bit I must say. Or it did... it's not to bad now actually.

I had surgery on the 12th feb, so 10 days ago. 4 replacement knuckles on my right hand. ( I'm left handed fortunately )

I have a splint which I have to take off every hour to exercise me fingies. They already move more than before so I'm pretty hopeful I'll be bendin and a' movin them more and more as the swelling goes down.

Biggest snag so far is getting the tops off my tubes of oil paint. I already seem to have a burnt umber elbow on my shirt. Messy swine!

Typing one handed is a trick too. So I'll be off now for a cuppa.

Cheers big ears

Ps. weather report - mighty sunny and, dare I say it, spring like here in the wild west. Marvellous!

So glad to hear that as I may be facing that op somewhere down the line. Although mine is in my left hand and I'm left handed. I'm also into art.

    Hi Chalky!
    Well done you!!!
Sounds like a positive outcome and I am really pleased for you
    All those one-handed jobs eh?!
At least we all now know the op is to be recommended if any of us (hopefully not) ever need it.
Take care and don't do TOO much!

    Thanks guys,

Yep, I went down for the post-op assessment yesterday and all is well in the digit department.
It's quite weird actually to see my hand looking pretty normal. It's been out of whack for a few years and will take a little time to get used to having everything as it should be ( fingers out straight rather than contracted in to a fist I mean ).

So far... I'd recommend the knuckle replacement operation to anyone with similar problems to mine. Early days maybe, I'll keep ya posted.

    Ya gotta luv those docs!

    Digitally remastered

    hello Chalky
So glad to hear the op went well, you'll be tossing the pallet round in no time. Do you paint to your mood chalky or stick with the comercial stuff in the hope of making a buck.

    Hi Colin,

I actually paint pretty much what I feel like painting mostly. This just naturally takes me from one subject to another depending on what inspires me.
If I have a commission I'll fit it in between what I'm painting at the time so as to have two or three paintings on the go at any one time.
This tends to stop me getting too stuck in a painting and making a hash of it ( not always though :? ), and keeps me interested too.

Off to do my physio now.

    Bend it like Beckham

    Chalks

    Hi folks :D ,

Thanks for bumping this up Linda. Bout time I updated you on my hand op status.

It's good ta. My fingers haven't at all deviated since the op although the whole hand is pretty weak still.
I have a squeezy stress ball thing that I do some gripping exercises on when I'm watching TV, so my grip is getting stronger.

There's no pain what so ever.

All in all the op was well worth it and my hand is in much better shape than before the op. Not only that but it looks better too.

( to anyone who has not seen this thread before... I had my big knuckles replaced on my right hand )

Sorry I haven't updated this thread earlier. It's a busy ol' summer.

    Keep smilin'
