Hiya
I personally have not had this but my mum has severe OA in her knees and has, so far, had 3 bakers cysts in the same leg burst.
She said that the pain when the cyst is there is very sore, but when it bursts, the pain is incredible.
Unfortunately as far as I understand, there is nothing that can be done. Either the arthritis to the area needs to be helped, or if it gets worse, draining the fluid may help. Other than that, unfortunately you are one of the "unlucky" ones.

Hi
Yeah - I had a ruptured Baker's cyst last year. I felt as though I had a tennis ball inside my calf, I remember it well .... My GP advised lots of Ibuprofen (together with Omeprazole to protect the stomach) - perhaps you'd better see your GP and see what they suggest. The swelling in my calf just went slowly, took 3-4 weeks. You have my sympathy.
Take care, and be patient, it will go.

Hi,
I have had something similiar. I have the knee drained and injected with a steroid. It's a beautiful thing in about 24-48 hours.

Hi Tamnwill
I had a bakers cyst last year they thought it was a blood clot at first. Cured with antibiotics but you need to keep the leg up and plenty of rest.
Regarding your dog having arthritis please tell him, yap, yapyapyelp, yap, yapyap. Take Care
