hi all i am new here and wanted to day hi. i have had RA for about six years now and have all sorts of drugs, MTX, LUFLUNIMDE, sulpha and different combos. i am currently trying, again, MTX and sulpha. Really makes me ill but the rhmy want to keep icreasibg the dose, didn't work before and doesn't work now. I seem to have it all over, in feet, hands, and across my breast bone which is badly swollen. the pain is horrific but the gp is being of little use. Have been on pain patches, tramadol, coco, but nothing seems to work for long. Two weeks ago was told by gp to wear 2 fentanyl 25 patches and take coco 500/30. Apart from making me very ill it did little for the pain. Phoned gp about an hour ago and she said she'll have a think about it and send up a prescription tomorrow, of what I dread to think. As anyone got any advice on what I should be asking for in terms of pain relief, i am desperate.
thanks in advance

Hi ConD
Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you're feeling grim at the moment and also a bit like a chemist shop
Have you ever had a muscular steroid injection? These can be given by your Rheumy (don't know if GPs do them) to bring things under control - it could be worth asking about one if you haven't tried it already.
Hope you feel better very soon.

Hello Cashondelivery,
Firstly welcome to the site.
Sorry that you are in constant pain, I hope you are soon sorted. A steroid injection might be just what you need. Hope you are feeling better a.s.a.p.
Legs are you still off the coffee and does it help?
All the best

Hello,
Glad you've found the sight.
Sorry to read about the pain, it really drags you down, dosn't it? I have OA, but the pain is bad at times. Hope you feel a bit better soon.Love Sue

Hi cashondelivery
Sounds like we are twins i suffer so bad with my chest and ribs its scary. I'm with Legs and Badger on this one, The injection is called a depot medrone injection and is a cocktail of steriods, it is offerd to us all when we find ouselves in difficulty or a flair. It will relieve your inflamation and take away the pain. You need to phone the Rheumy nurse and talk to her let her know how desperate you are. The other one is a steriod tablet called PREDNISOLONE it is not for long term use although i have been on it for over a year. When you are in the type of pain you have it will help but you need to take at least 20mg a day i've just gone to that does because i'm not well and cant have the depot medrone
it works really well and will get your pain levels down within 48 hours. Only problem is it is a steriod and when you have to come off them its a gradual thing but worth it. Do you take anti sickness if not this will ease the illness you feel.

BadgerCan't ever remember saying I was off coffee Badger - think you must be mixing me up with someone else - could it have been Wonkylegs? :?
I believe in a balanced diet and eat and drink everything - have tried to omit all sorts over the years but a normal diet is best for me.

Hello C on Del,
hope your new prescription is going to do the trick. You have found a good bunch of people with a wealth of RELAVANT info on here. It is easier to believe someone who knows exactly where you are coming from than some of the so called experts.
Badger, I think I confused you with the coffee thing as I posted on a topic 2 weeks ago which has disappeared. I gave up drinking black coffee with quite good results actually and then the next week was prescribed Diclofenac to take alongside my paracetemol and codiene phosphate. What a difference a week makes.
