Hi all thanks for your replies to my fist go on here. Just picked up some new pain killers and I am disturbed. has anyone taken a drug called Neurontin before? They are described as a drug for eppilepsy and long term pain caused by damage to the nerves. i am going to phone the gp and ask for an explanation.
Any feed back would be much appreciated.
Re my first post, yes I have regular steroid injections but the effect is now short lived.
best regards
Dennis.

    Hi Dennis

Neurotin or gabapentin is prescribed for RA and Fibromyalgia too. I have never taken this painkiller.

I think it is a good idea to contact your gp for more information to hopefully put your mind at rest.

Sorry to hear you are in so much pain.

    Wishing you all the best,
    Elna

    Hi Dennis,
I am on something similar, pregabalin and it really does (for me) work. The fact they are for EP doesn't mean a thing, they found as a side effect they do a good job with some kinds of pain. They block the pain receptors in the brain and they really do the job! Give them a go and you may be amazed at how good they are. They have helped me to keep going and working. Take care

    Hi,

I take something similar. Its the old anti-depressent amatriptlyne (spelling) My Gp gave to me because I was getting a lot of pain at night. Apparntly they've found out that a some drugs like this work on the CNS and stop pain. The dose needed for pain relief is much smaller than an antidepressant dose. Its helped me a lot. But if you're worried about it, the best thing you can do is talk to the Doc or pharmasist. Hope the new drug helps you. Love SUe

I take gabapentin 500mg three times daily for nerve pain in my left arm as well as amatriptoline at night. I find it extremely effective for this particular pain and am on co-codamol 30/500 for the other arthur pains.

    HI Cash (Ilove your name!!!)
Neurontin is gabapentin and is for neoropathic pain. Supposed to bloke the signals to the brain or something like that.
Skeizer is right it is really an anti epilepsy drug. I was told it would either work for me or not. It didn't and I got up to the max dose. No side effects though
I hope it works for you.
    Take care

    Hi Dennis
I haven`t trid gabapentin, but my friend who has been suffering with back pain and associated sciatic type pain has found it great. She had been on amitryptiline and other pain killers without much relief for a couple of years, and a new gp at her practice suggested trying gabapentin. Hope it works for you.
