i don't know if you remeber a few months ago i hurt my fingers and lost the ability to move them?
well after the hospital found no reason for the lack of movement they suggested i keep trying, they offered me physio but because of the differculty in actually getting to hospital i said i'd be better off just keep trying to get the strength and movement back myself and recently i have regained so movement but this evening i was playing with sarah (my little one) and she accidenlty pulled my little finger and it actually came out of it's socket, it dislocated, which is pretty yuck. anyway with a big ouch and a bit of painfull wiggling i got it back in place only for it to slip out again. it's made me feel sick.
seen as the hospital could find nothing wrong do you think i should ask for a 2nd oppinion?
i just don't think it should be dislocating so easily?
any idea's?
thanks in advance!

It isn't normal for fingers to dislocate like that. No wonder you felt sick!I think you should go back and tell them what happened. Get it checked again. You can ask for a second opinion.

HI Sue
Have been wondering about your fingers!!
I def would go back and asap. Does it feelk secure in it's socket now? Poor you
If you have a rheumy I would ring the nurses there too for advioce. This is not something you shoulkd have to put up with.
Good luck and let us know

they feel better today, but last night after it first happened my finger seemed top keep clicking out.
it's doing my head in as last week i knocked my thumb and now i can't bend that either, i just feel like my hands are getting so weak and useless, the slightest knock to them can cause massive repercitions (sp)
so now out of my ten fingers i have 3 not working properly, 2 on one hand and a thumb on the other. the annoying thing is my thumb is on my left hand so holding a pen is a nightmare, imbarressing when your hand writing is worse than your daughters!!
i just found that when i say the dr at the fracture clinic the 1st time, he checked my fingers, did an xray and a scan on them, said there was nothing physically wrong with them so just exercise them, not much help really!
i will get a dr's appointment tomorrow and see if i can get refered to someone else.
thank you everyone for your help.

Hello,
You really do need to go back to the hospital or your GP. Something is wrong and they need to get to the bottom of it. Try physio, it at all possible, if they suggest it, as a physio may come up with something useful the docs have missed. I hope you get sorted quickly, it sounds very painful. OUCH. :x Love Sue0 -
my only problem with physio is getting to the hospital. i don't drive so i have to struggle with train and then a bus, not easy.
i did ask about patient transport a few yrs ago, but was told i wasn't eligable. maybe i'll ask again?0 -

Gotta be worth a try - so glad you're going to see the Dr.

You may be hypermobile like me (double jointed) . I often dislocated things , were you good at gymastics as a child? Could you do weird things with your fingers etc. There are links between hypermobility and RA, and unfortunately it means that your ligaments and tendons are very elastic and dont keep joints strong. You can also "sublux" which means things slip around and almost come out of the joint. My hip does this sometimes. Yuk!
They can test you for Hypermobility just by lifting your fingers and making you touch your thumb to your arm, even with RA they should recognise it straight away. Have a look on the internet you may recognise some of the symptoms. Good luck.0 -
i'm not double jointed, i've never been very flexable at all!! thank you for replying though. i was one of the children who couldn't do ballet or anything due to being so rubbish at p.e!
i think this finger dislocating is due to the injury a few months ago.
my finger just came out of it's socket again a minute ago when i was brushing my little ones hair, i'm still trying to get an appointment at the dr's, they didn't have any today so i have to keep ringing and hoping an appointment will be available soon.
i know i said it before but it really is a horrible feeling when my little finger pops out of it's socket, i have to fight the panic reaction and just pop it back in.
i'm just so paranoid about hurting any more fingers now though.0 -
HI Suzster
Did you get any joy?
I am really worried about this as I know I couldn't bear it and you ARE!!!
Look after those pinkies
Take care

it is horrible, the finger seems to be more likely to dislocate when i'm gripping (well trying to) things, it has done it several times both today and yesterday when i was pushing my little one in her pushchair. i have managed to get an appointment with my rheumy tomorrow as my gp said she would rather i be seen by someone who knows about my joints. so hopefully i will know abit more then
it is beginning to get more painful now, and although it is slipping out of it's joint very easily it is now alot more painful to get back in, it actually got stuck on the way to school and that took my breath away, still fingers crossed (not mine though!) i will find out whats wrong tomorrow.
i just really hope my rheumy doesn't refer me to fracture clinic again, as appointments take forever to come through.
thank you for your concern though toni, it's nice to know people are thinking of me!!

just to let you all know, my rheumy said i had a 'nodule' on the base of my finger and that was what was making it keep dislocating, it was a big nodule so she said!
so a very painful injection of steroid into the nodule, (ouch is an understatment!) and she said it should feel better soon and i might need another injection in a few months if it doesn't get totally better.
i now have a bruise where she injected and it is very sore but hopefully not for long.
she says i have nodules at the base of several of my fingers / thumbs but they are ok and not causing problems, so fingers crossed they don't in the future.
i also have to see a hand surgeon asap as she is concerned that after accidently bending my thumb back a few weeks ago it is now still not right, i can't bend it at all, which makes holding a pen and writing impossible. although last time when i hurt my fingers they wouldn't bend they did after time and exercise start moving a little, but so far my thumb is not.
it would seem i have to be very careful with my hands from now on as i don't want to end up damaging them any more.
thank you everyone for your advice and help.

Hi Sue,
I'm glad you've been able to see someone about your fingers - I've been thinking about you, as your experience doesn't sound nice and I was hoping it had improved. Hopefully the steroids will settle things down while you wait for your surgical appointment - let us know how things are going.
Regards,
Josie0
