Hello, I'm very new here. I was diagnosed with RA two months ago. Lately, I struggle to turn on / off taps as I have pain with most of my fingers. I googled to see if there are any products to aid me but could not reach good websites. Does anyone know good websites where I can find some gadgets? Thank you

not sure about web sites for products like you want ...... but have you been assessed by an ocupational therapist (OT)? If you are struggling with taps they should be able to help you with something, and also may come up with other things that would be of help.

When I was referred to the OT for wrist splints I ended up with chair raisers, a bath board, cutlery grips and lots of great tips!
    hope that helps

My wife's occupational therapist arranged for some additions to be added to the taps. They fit over the existing taps, and are held in place by rubber matting. My neighbour had new taps fitted with long handles like in hospitals. Both work very well and are easy to turn. Someone on her will know of a website.

Welcome to the site. Will you join us on the 8th April to beat the record.

Thank you for your replies. I'm so surprised that I have received two replies in lsuch a short time. I'm glad I've joined this forum! I haven't seen OT yet. My next appointment with the rheumatologist is in 10 days so I will definitely ask. Thank you very much!

How about a topic called “with friends like you.” Colin could write a joke on it, Joan you could do a poem. I think I might write a short story. There are many possibilities.

Well what do you all think?

There are sets of plastic fittings which will fit over standard X taps, click on http://www.handyhealthcare.co.uk/mobility-aids/household/gripping-and-turning/tapturn-turners.html

You can have lever tap inserts fitted, (plumbers know about them), which are the best, (all our tap inserts were replaced last year). Try googling lever tap insert. Also, B&Q stock them and it saves changing the entire tap, just change the top bit.

    Hi
If you look on the youareableshop.co.uk at daily living aids you will find tap turners to fit both kinds of tap. Welcome to the site :)

Hi, I have some lever taps in the kitchen and bathroom, you obviously have to pay to put them in but it might be worth the expense, they are very easy to use you just put them up and down as required love Jaspercatxx

I also have lever taps, and I find them much easier than tap turner's etc.
Lever taps are a good investment, maybe like me you can cajole a friend to fit them for free. :D

I had new taps fitted yesterday they have long bits at the top they are so much easier just got to get used to them as I keep splashing myself with water. I also had the door catches changed so that I dont have to push door handles down they just push shut & open. So much easier. Having a shower fitted now as I have OA in my wrists which makes getting in & out of the bath difficult. It was Occy health that arranged it for me.
