Old troubles rearing their heads again!

Hi,
Just when I was hoping to be feeling a bit better, my old aches and pains are coming back to haunt me. I have had back problems and prolapsed disc in my neck in the past. But luckily it hasn`t troubled me for a few months. But over the past few days I have spotted the familiar signs and symptoms. My upper back is really painful, and radiates into my shoulder and down to back of ribs. My neck is hurting and I am frightened that this will pop out again, causing me to be in excrutiating pain, and unable to dress myself on the upper body. This is not good as I am still having problems with lower half due to recent THR!
I think that sleeping on my back, as advised post op, and using crutches is not helping or triggering these problems again.
Aaarghh! And to top it off my new joint feels , well, strange today. Stiff. Is that normal? But hey whats normal!!!!?

Hi NB
Oh no not more problems, wish you could just give them the boot.
Using crutches does put pressure on your shoulders and neck so that could explain the problems you have now. Do you use a special neck pillow? I know I've told someone this before but Ikea do different pillows for back and side sleepers. Might be an idea to invest in one for back sleepers if you have to sleep on your back for a while.
Hope this helps and that you get better soon.
Love

Sorry you've got neck pain, thats something you could do without.
Maybe, as the lower half isn't too mobile at the moment you're putting a bit more weight on the top half and using it to pull yourself about more, and now the necks protesting!!! Perhaps, if you give it a bit of tender loving care for a few days, it'll settle down again for you. Are you perhaps trying to do too much too soon? I know the temptation. I use a memory foam pillow for my neck and it likes a hot pad too. Take care! Sue0 -
Hi
I probably have been putting strain on my upper body, and have dug my trusty wheatbag out. I find it invaluable to soothe aches, especially in my neck. However I have had some sharp pains in my new joint tonight! I haven`t had any pain actually in the joint, only the wound area, as expected. I was a bit surprised to have pains in my joint and radiating down my leg/knee/ankle.
I have sat on my bed with my leg straight and it has eased a little, but I have taken my evening meds. I do find it hard to rest, but want to do a bit of exercise by moving my legs. It is getting the right balance I guess.
Sue, I have a new memory foam topper which I find great, but I might invest in a pillow too.
Take care all xx

Hi Nearly bionic
I can;'t sleep on my back due to op 5 years ago so I do think that might be relevant, but speak to physio they might be able to advise.
Sorry to be a pain, but did you have chicken pox/shingles in the end???
Only interested because my 11 year old daugter has got it - shingles -she had chick as a baby and now this. The diffrerence was the blisters were all together about 20 of them but almost touching each other in one area.
I do hope you are feeling better today.
Take care

Hi Toni
I think I am finding sleeping a problem because I usually sleep on my left side and its my left hip that I ahd replaced. I keep trying to get on my right side but my left side won`t let me!! So frustrating, especially when my hubby is fast asleep!
I`m sorry that your daughter has shingles, poor thing! I hope she isn`t suffering too much. For me, in the end it was chickenpox again. Strange considering I had a massive dose when I was about 9 or 10. Also my daughter had it aged 2, and was covered, and she had passed them on to my son who was a newborn at the time!
At least the spots are going now, so not as itchy, just dry and unsightly, but hey, who`s going to see me indoors!?
