Hi,
I have, as most of you may know, oa in my neck and an osteophate pressing on a nerve. Last night I woke up with a very strange feeling. My neck had been painful during the evening and night, but now the right side of my face felt numb, like I'd had a dentists injection. I had full movement in my face and no other symptoms, I got up and walked around, then went back to bed. All though its practicly gone I think it still feels a bit strange on that side.

I wondered if the osteophate on my spine could be the problem. Love Sue

    Hi Sue
Do you have any problems with your jaw? I had numbness in my face on 1 side and inside my mouth, a few years ago. You could have taken my teeth out, as you say like a dental block injection. It lasted for a few months and I was reviewed by the max/fax drs. They thought something was pressing on the nerve in my jaw. eventually it improved by itself so who knows? :?
However a few years later I was turned down for a insurance policy as I had been investigated for MS! No one had told me that at the time though. And back we go to the poor communication thread!!
    Take care xx

    HI NB

I do have a shooting pain in that side of my face from time to time. It has never lasted more than a few seconds and I didn't bother about it, just put it down to 'one of those things.) Anyway, I'll be seeing the neuro on Thursday, so I can mention it to him. :) Love Sue

    Hi Sue
I hope your neuro appt goes well and you are able to get some answers. I had an EEG as part of my investigations for facial numbness so when I think back I saw a neuro too. But only once i think, Gosh my memory is so rubbish these days!! I still get a tingly sensation on that side at times but not full numbness. Just another of my strange little things!

    Hi Sue,

This has happened to me a couple of times but with a few years between each time. My experience was that when I woke in the morning one side of my face felt numb and my lips and cheek were quite swollen but, again, just on one side. It gradually disappeared during the day so that by about 3 pm I was back to normal. I have never mentioned it to my GP 'cos the symptoms of whatever it was went away by themselves. If it does happen again I think I'll go to see my doc although I'm not sure what he could do to help.

Don't know if this was similar to what happened to you. :?

    Hi Sue,
I don't think it can be anything to do with your neck as that normally does below and not above the point of the problem. I promise you it wasn't a stroke ( I think those ads are actually very good and maybe they should do on on CPR) . It might be the same as Legs and I would mention it to the neuro guy on thursday, if only to put your mind at rest. Legs take your to your gp if it happens again. :)
I hope this makes sense as ever I am writing it over 3 cats! :) Take care and good luck on Thursday. Cris x

Hi Sue, I have had similar experiences, I have just had osteophytes and disc removed from C5/6 and this seems to have resolved the problem. Linda

    Hi,
Thank you everyone for your comments. I will mention it to the neuro when I go on Thursday afternoon. I think my neck problems are about c5 & c6 but I'm not sure, as the doctor had such a strong accent, we both (my hubby and I) found him difficult to understand.. It can be quite strange when something like that happens and in the night I'm not at my best, to say the least! :) l. I'll let you know what happens. I suppose it will mean more tests and waiting. Still, I'll be glad to get things moving, as I seem to have been hanging around, with nothing much happening for ages. :) . Lots of good wishes for a good nights sleep to everyone! Love Sue

    Hi Sue,
I get the exact same sensation in my face but I was told it was due to my temperomandibular joint dysfunction and the OA in my jaw. Hope you are feeling ok?
