i'm just curious, i have been taking zomorph for about 2 years since before my RA was diagnosed. although i have mtx injections and take sulpha, naproxen i still feel pain most days but my gp is trying to get me off the morhine.
i've lowered my dose from 40mg twice a day down to 30mg a day, and although if i'm not doing to much the pain isn't to bad, whenevery i try to walk any were i need to take extra (oramorph) without taking the extra medicine i wouldn't be able to walk anywhere.
i'm just scared that if i stop the morphine tablets alltogether i'm going to just start relying more and more on the zomorph medicine.
although i feel my RA is more under control i still have pain daily and i know if i don't manage to get out and about i will end up putting on weight and getting depressed.
so, i was just wondering if others need to take morphine and if so how much and how often? also have you been on it long term?
thanks in advance
sue

    Hi Suzster
I started to take 20mg of morphine twice daily , with oromorph liquid for breakthrough pain last year. (and my other painkillers, and anti inflammatories)
Since my surgery I have had to increase my oromorph initially, and now I`m home am trying to look at whether I can reduce things.
I started to reduce morning dose and keep night time dose same at first but just found that I then needed oromorph! My operated leg is not as painful but I still get back and neck pain, and my other hip is painful.
I will leave things alone until I can see my dr at my review in a month I think.
Its difficult to get the balance right ,isn`t it? Less meds and less activity due to pain, or keep the meds and be able to do things!
I hope things work out for you.
