Hi this my first post, I have found the forum a great source of information and would like to thank everyone for their useful advice, you have answered so many of my questions that I didn't need to post.
I have PA and OA, I;m currently on Methotrexate, Tramadol SR, Etodolac,Solphadol. I am working part-time and I am constantly feeling like a zombie. I am usually asleep by 8 ( I'm 46) then about 2.00 am my whole body becomes a mass of shooting pain, especially my hands and toes and then I am unable to settle again. I take Solphodol to take the edge off when it starts. I end up reading or listening to the radio all night, then when I have to get up I could go to sleep! Fine when I'm not working. Has anyone got any tips please.

    Hello Haagan
No tips but lots of sympathy I have PA and RA between the pain and medication I’m the same as you and at the moment I have no regular sleep pattern. I’m at an advantage though because I no longer work and can sleep in the day if need be. I’ve tried this and that and different times of taking pain killers it all seems to work for a short time then back to normal. Its as if the arthritis has a mind of its own and it just kids you for a while. However my best results came from 2x500mg paracetamol caps just as I’m getting into bed this has given me a full 6 hours sleep from time to time and the paracetamol seem to be more gentle on you in the side effects department. Work can’t help but what can you do. Hope the pain eases soon Take Care

    Hi Haagan

Welcome to the site. Sorry to hear you are struggling at the moment.

What do you think you do that is different on the days when you are not work?

Would it be possible for you to try not to go to bed so early on a working day? Just a thought.

Sorry I have no solutions. Do you perhaps need stronger meds for night time? If you have no problem sleeping when not at work it cannot be anything to do with your mattress or suchlike.

Hope you get sorted - undisturbed sleep is very important for one's wellbeing.

    Luv
    Elna x
The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

    Hi
I don't know if this is any help, but when I was at work, (off sick now), I used to come home at around 3pm and go to bed for a short nap and that would help me through the evening. If possilbe I'd recommend trying it. Love Sue

    Hi
I dont think from the sounds of things my symptoms are as bad as yours but when I do wake up with terrible pain I find something as simple as a hot water bottle helps. It may sounds daft but that with some lavender oil works a treat for me. When I wake up I also take a painkiller but find this does help.
    Sorry I cant offer anymore.

I would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts, I live on my own and being awake in the early hours is very lonely. I will certainly try the lavender, my toes insist on a hotwater bottle at night, if they don't get one I certainly know about it!. I think my tireness is 50% arthur and 50% painkillers, unfortunately I'm on maximum doses of both at present as P A is having a tantrum and I am increasing my Methodextate in two goes so until it kicks in I;m in limbo. Forunately I have very understanding employers. Thanks again.
