Hi everyone,
not been on for a while again, bad flare ups, after been on 4 different dmards and 2 anti-tnfs treatments the hospital have decided they would like me to go into hospital and go back to basics as my consultant said. He has took me off all treatments for my RA , and wants me to have ultrasounds of all joints and x rays and have physio and hydrotherapy as an inpatient.
I have had physio and hydrotherapy before i didn't get much relief from it and he wants to take bloods without any of the treatments been in my system so he can get true results and then hopefully start me on maybe some other treatment, Rituximab was mentioned at a previous visit but not sure if that's still a possibility anymore.
Any one else had all different meds not worked for them and had to under go all these test again?

Hi Sharon,
I was once offered the chance of the treatment you're talking about during a flare-up. Unfortunately, at that time my children were quite young and it was the six weeks holidays from school and organising childcare would have been a nightmare - so I turned it down and battled on.
In hindsight I wish I could have accepted, although the thought of coming off all my meds did frighten me at the time because I was already in alot of pain.
As the medical back-up is there along with hydro and physio, it could be just what you need to sort out your medication and be really beneficial to you in the long run and, as I see it, what have you got to lose?

Hi Sharon
So sorry to hear your arthur is so very out of control
You know reading what you and Legs have both said, I think, If you can spare the time it could well be worth a try?
If you do decide to give it a go do let us know how you get on so we can support you.
Take care

Hi Sharon
As already said above, it does make sense to "cleanse" the body and start again. As Linda says, you will have all the medical backup whilst in there and be looked after. You have tried so many different meds.
I hope you are able to make necessary arangements so you can spare the time to stay in. Going back to basics seems an excellent idea of your consultant and take it from there.
You are a brave soldier and I wish you all the best. Please let us know how you go on.

Hi,
Although a stay in hospital is not want any sane person wants it does sound as if it could help you a lot in the long run.
So many of us are on medications for a long time and they get changed by one doctor and then another, until no-one really knows whats working and what is'nt. A time free of medication, and then carefully introducing things, may be a good way of finding the best treatment. Also having hydrotherapy and so on may help.
Going without medication is a bit daunting, I know, but at least you'll be in hospital, and should get lots of help.
As with everything, it has to be your choice and if you don't want to do it, that should be execpted by the medics. Afterall it may not be the right time for you to do this at the moment. Can you talk to anyone from the medical team that are treating you (GP, or nurse)? If you can, it could help you make the decision. Hope all goes well and take care. Love Sue0 -
Hi Sharon I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to try to get the best treatment for you as an individual. It would be awful to try to get off all your medications at home and still function.
I know the prospect for going into hospital is dreadful, but I think in the long term it would be beneficial to you.
Wishing you all the best in the future. Linda0 -

hi everyone,
thanks for your support through this difficult time, i must of misled you i am off the meds now, there said they had to be out of my system before i go into hospital which i have now been cold turkey for 3 weeks and it is getting harder , they should be phoning within the next week or 2 for me to go in but until then its just pain killers and amitriptiline for me, i have started to get night time stiffness aswell as the morning and at the moment i am typing with one hand because the other one is so swollen and my hip feels like its gone to sleep.
I hope its all worth it and i start on a treatment that works.
thanks
