Hello everybody this is my first post I am 36 years old male being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis about 12 months ago. It seems to only affect my finger and thumb on my right hand but when it flares up I can feel pain in my jaw, elbow and foot all on the right side.

I am currently on 25mg of methotrexate , (folic acid) sulfasalazine 500mg x6 daily and down to 5mg of prednisolone a day tried to reduce to 4mg but had to much pain.
I am told it all started when I got scalp psoriasis which I still have.

Not sure what the future holds and if the methotrexate is working for me as I am the max and still suffering.

Any advice welcome.

Thanks
Richard

hi, i'm also on sulpha 4 tablets twice daily, methertrexate 25mg, and i found i was still struggling until the mtx was changed from tablets to a weekly injection, this made a big difference as i think i got more of an effect from it. so might be worth discussing this possibility?
i'm nearly 35 and was diagnosed just over a yrs ago.
i still struggle daily but i have RA in most of my joints, my hands are worst at the moment.
it seems to be that the RA goes up and down, flare are awful but then other days i don't feel so bad, it various!
i can't offer to much help as i'm still at the start of it to but, please do read other posts, ask if you need advice as everyone here is friendly and you will find someone always has been through whatever you go through and so theres always help at hand!!
welcome and i hope you see, well feel some improvement soon

Hy Richard No words of wisdom for you i'm sorry just a hearty welcome to the site. My probles started in 1971 following a car crash i developed psoriasis it was all over me but also in my scalp i hated it and although i got it under control and learnd to live with it i now have little or no Psoriasis as the methotrexate got shut of it. Lucky me. Ok i suffer quite bad with the arthur but no psoriasis, just get me to the beach. Flair ups are quite painful i know and apart from the obvious reasons can also be linked to stress and overdoing things. You never said how long you had been on the methotrexate, sometimes it is hard to get arthur under controle and its trial and error. what drugs work for some dont work for others and i'm sure thats as frustrating for the Rheumy as it is for us. Well Take Care richard and keep your chin up. you will meet some great people on the site who will go out of their way to help and advise you.

Hi and welcome to the Forum. I'm 33 and have OA of the spine and sacral area. I came on here after getting my diagnosis in January. I was just so down and kept thinking of all the things I'd always wanted to do for myself and my kids and just couldn't stay positive. Within hours of being on here the outpouring of support I got overwhelmed me, it felt so good to speak to people who understood my symptoms. I didn't know anything about any kind of arthritis really before coming here. Now I get to hear everyone's stories and share tips with them. It really does help. Take care, Alex

Just to say hello and welcome. Sorry you are so down at the moment, but I think its only natural, given time you'll find out what works for you and things will get better. :) You need to be kind to yourself. I know it took me time and still, I find I have days when I get fed up and depressed. Do you have someone, GP, nurse or something, that you can talk about how you feel to? Anyway, we're always here and the helpline team are very good. Love Sue
