Hi all
I've been having a burning sensation in my upper chest and in my lower abdomen since last month. I told my GP about it and gave me different medication to take (I also have a hiatus hernia) and had been taking Pariet for about ten years. She said that many people suffer with stomach problems as a result of taking so many meds.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm due to see her next week and the list of things to discuss with her get increasingly longer!

OA certainly throws up a lot of extra problems!

    Hi Sharmaine,
I have had that and can get that. I also have had the other kind of chest pain and that is so different so don't worry you have that one. If you have a hernia are you already on something like Raspa somethings, Zooton, Omeprazole or similar? If not ask your gp for a acid pump inhibitor tablet (I think thats what they are called) as some drugs can attack the lining of both your stomach and duodenal bit of your intestine.

If you are on those and it's the capsule maybe you need the other ones? Just talk to your gp and maybe with the change of drugs you have it will settle down. I really hope it does soon. Take care :)

    Hi
I'm on Omeprazole but will ask my GP when I see her to prescribe the inhibitor you suggest. I know it's not my heart as apparently that is a crushing pain on your chest. Thanks for your replying I appreciate it.

    Hi Sharmaine,
Omeprazole is an inhibitor but not necessarily good with the hernia. Its the coating and also they are the cheep option. When ever I get an ulcer they quickly change it to one of the better ones. They are good at helping with the Nsad's but see if she can change you on to something like the Rasp (I think ts Rabeprazole) as they are tablets and are easier to digest and don't have as many E numbers.

The other kind of chest pain really is very different. I only get a bit and the real mccoys are un mistake able if the ones I get are anything to go by! :) Long may you not get them and I must stop stressing eh?! Take care, Cris

Hello, I don't want to worry you but I'd get it checked out again if the pain is still there. I've had a perforated ulcer from pain meds. Don't worry, if you had a perforation, you'd know! But if your having a lot of indigetion pains it may need checking, as they are easy to heal if caught in time. Mine perforated because it gave no symptoms! I'm probably wrong, but I'd get it checked out. :) Hope you feel better soon. Love Sue

    Hi
Funny you should say that...I was on Rapeprazole (spelling these medical names is by downfall) but my GP wanted me to gry Omeprazole to be honest I don't find them that good. I keep wondering if I have an ulcer as well as the hernia. Will check it out and let you know.
No, I don't want to experience that 'other' chest pain and sorry to hear that you have.
    Regards

    Hi Sue
Thank you for this. I will check it out I seem to have this burning feeling in my lower abdomen and particularly in my upper chest everyday. I take my Omeprazole first thing now and then follow an hour later with my meds (after breakfast). I have to be careful esp with having a hiatus hernia. This pain is different from what I experienced with the hiatus hernia, prior to diagnosis (my hernia just made me sick) this is different. I will check it out. I'm tempted to return to my old medication which I thought was better.
    Regards

    Hello Sharmaine

    Hi Sharmaine
medication can and does play hell with you. Its an endless battle trying to cope with your hiatus hernia the emotional feelings and the pain of this on top of the arthritis. Not only that but you are scared and don’t know where or who to turn to next. You have probably been to casualty several times because of the feelings in your chest and despite the results and what you are told you are still scared, worried and find yourself in an endless situation and it seems there is no way out. but there is i hope you dont mind i have sent you PM hope it wasent to forward of me and hope it can help. I agree with the post on cheap medication it really is down to cost, the other thing is it might be worth asking the GP to send you back to see the specialist about the hiatus he knows more than your GP. Take care
