    Hi,
I do not know a great deal about DLA, but I do have a friend who gets it for being partially sighted. On his first attempt for DLA they refused him as he said this and that about his condition. A friend of his told him he had to fill out the form as though it was the worse day of his life, due to the condition, and write what it means he can and cannot do. A few weeks later he was awarded high right DLA and Mobility.

So bear in mind that the form is not, as others have said also, asking what is your disability but how it affects your life, and lay it on thick too as though it is the worse day, DO NOT say "normally I can do this or that" think as your worse day and say "no I cannot do that" it's not lying or exageratting, you're simply telling them about the bad days.

    Hope this helps

Thanks - great advice you have given me. I wish I had came across this site before filling in my application.

I remember stating that I sometimes fall/stumble but since then I do everyday so rang them up and told them.

I said what I couldnt do but I didnt lay it on thick at all ( silly me so guess it will be a No).

My GP has received a letter from the hospital saying that I cannot be offered further treatment. So as soon as I can get a copy of this I will fax it to the Decision Maker ASAP hopefully he will hang fire with his decision till then, because I dont fancy another 12 week wait having too appeal.

Rang the DLA this morning and been told that a decision has been made on my DLA Mobility claim (waited 18 weeks in total). Decision letter was sent 2nd class yesterday and should get it sometime late next week.

I then remembered when I was awarded lower rate DLA Care in 2002 I asked for a copy of the claim form and medical report and the woman wondered why when my claim had been granted. I just wanted it to reference purposes.

So being in a sly mood I rang DLA a few moments ago and pressed 3 to discuss a recent decision I had been issued. The operator asked me to confirm my name, telephone number and date of birth. I was then asked what level I have been awarded. I said I currently get lower rate Care but didnt know Mobility decision as havent received letter yet. She went really quiet and asked why I wanted a copy of the form!?!?!? She then said it would take many weeks for me to get a copy of initial DLA application and Consultants report because my file has automatically been sent into storage. Is this normal!?!?!?

I felt really excited when she asked what level I have just been awarded ???

Dont want to get carried away as it may be the lower level inwhich case a mobility scooter will take me many years to pay for. But Im just so excited I had to tell someone. Role on Mr Postie coming next week......

    hi lindas
YES YOU DO QUALIFY but do it now, alot of people do tell you, and this includes the CAB, to fill out the forms as if its your WORST DAY, now lets face it, most days are a worst day, but i filled out my form....by myself no help from CAB, Drs, DSS and i was awarded high rate mobility with low rate care, first time with no medical, they just contacted my dr. & it all took about 8 weeks. now i do pat myself on the back for this ...did i mention i filled it out by myself  ??!! and i did it as if it were a normal day, aches and pains, hurting joints, but i didnt over do it and i wrote it as if i were talking to them face to face, i told them that i was gutted  (yes i used that word) that i couldnt do my garden or tend to my veg, that i could only cook once a week and that it took best part of the day to prep the meal as i had to keep going and sitting down etc etc, you get the gist? but, like i said do it now and do it on line as it will be back dated to when you first applied, even if you have to appeal.
let us know how you get on and good luck. love from Sally.xx :D

Finally received a response after 18 weeks to say NO! I still get lower rate care for another condition I have but they said that I have never seen a specialist, nor had medication nor have ever displayed symptoms and can walk without pain. I was fuming!!!!  Who are they kidding. My GP surgery said its because they are trying to save money and it happens all the time but that was no consilation; although she meant well.

Ends up the DLA contacted a specialist who I saw just once, ....4 years ago! As that was before I had surgery or anyting he left lots of the boxes blank on the report they decided NO.

Ive contacted my GP and Surgeon asking for them to write a letter of support for me.

DIAL have been amazing and told me to appeal which I am going to once Ive got a copy of the report from the DLA. Although Im dubious whether I send a copy of my care plan from Social Services O.T with the appeal because DIAL said it would go against me in the support meant I didnt have trouble with the stairs anymore, showering etc....

hi wondering if anyone could advise is it possible to get dla if you have OA i have it in my left hip to the point where the joint has deteriated and i have no joint left on the waiting list for hip replacement but a friend told me i should qualify for dla and the blue badge scheme please can anyone help with this query thanks
If you have been declined for both components then you have the right of appeal against this decision, but you must appeal within 3 months of this being declined. Many people are declined for DLA first time around but most end up getting lower level on appeal.

    Good luck with appeal.
