I just had a call and they had a cancellation and asked me to come for the scan tomorrow. I jumped at the chance, it is an MRI scan I am having. It is my neck and she said I could just wear loose clothes and I do not have to take them off but to remove jewellry etc. I understand you have to stay still, how long will that last? I suffer from chronic back pain and will find it difficult to stay still. Any advice anybody, if I stay too still in one postion, my back will gets cramp? Thanks

    Hi

Good news :) I think the scan can take up to 45 mins but I'm sure it can be less too. Like someone said they might do short bursts and let you have a shuffle :)

    Good luck

    Love

Hi again just had a thought, when I've had my recent CAT scans, 4 in last 6mnths  They put a wedge under my knees to take pressure off my back. As it's you kneck I wonder if they can do the same for you. :)

    Hi Marie
I'm glad to hear that you are having your scan.I'm not sure what you can do about your back problem, but tell them when you get there as they must come across problems like this all the time.

When I had an MRI scan,it wasn't too bad at all, just a bit noisy. The only thing I found was that with having to lie so still, I got rather cold. I was glad that I wore track-suit bottoms with no zip,and a cardigan.
I hope it goes well for you

Hi, Thats good news!!! :) I had mine just about Christmas time, I think. It took about 20 to 30 mins, I had to take my bra off as it had underwires and metal hooks   The only thing was I forgot to take my watch off and it took all the power from the battery, which was lucky  as it can ruin a watch. I used to work as a secretary in the science area of Oxford, and once went into a hospital building which had the big MRI scanner, and took my watch off and put it into my handbag - it zapped my watch and a bank card! :D. Good luck! :) Love Sue

    Hi
Great you got a cancellation. As its your neck, they might only put that bit in the scanner allowing you to move other bits a little but it does depend on which type of scanner they use. Either way they do try and make you as comfortable as possible. Don't forget to tell the radiologist about your back and they may try harder!
    Good luck Gill

That's great news, no more waiting. Yes you take off your jewellery and anything with metal. It can be uncomfortable but they give you muisc which does help to distract you. Make sure you tell them you become uncomfortable easily, I did and they agreed to do my scan in lots of little bursts, they also said to shout on them if I needed to stop. I didn't have the dye as had a sever allergic reaction to IVP as a child but they got everything they needed from the scan alone. Good luck xxxxxx

    Hi Marie,

Glad they are going to do it so quickly. I had mine done with the rest of my spine but they moved me in further after around 20 mins so it ma only take that long. They do, as has been said do all they can to make you as comfy as possible but you do have to stay still or it will take longer. I hope it all goes well and it's not so bad. take care, Cris

I had the scan yesterday. I was all worked up as hubby is not the best driver and we have to go to another place about 50 mins drive by car. Anyway got there 30 mins early, I was really flustered with hubby getting lost, he is getting on as well.

The scan went well, 10 mins seemed an eternity. I closed my eyes very tightly and say my prayers "hail of Mary over and over again". I am such a coward, when I opened my eyes I did not like the feeling of being trapped in a box,it is so claustrophobic if you are that inclined. Will get the results in two days, keeping fingers crossed they are all right. I did manage to stay still even the arm behaved, no pin and needles when I was there.
