hi all, i've not been on here much recently because i feel so sick.
i've been doing mtx injections for about 6 months and up until recently they have been great. no sickness and a great improvement to all my joints.
so i have been lowering my morphine dose slowly and i'm really pleased as i've gone from 40mg twice a day down to 20mg twice a day. it has taken a while as i've been on it a long time and my gp told me to take it slow, but yay i've done it.
so i saw rheumy 3 weeks ago, told i felt so much better, no sickness since coming off mtx tablets and doing injections so she was pleased and said to see her in 6 months.

anyway, now it's all gone wrong. the injection i did a few days after seeing rheumy caused me to feel really sick, i did it last thing at night and woke up feeling sick. had to take anti sickness which helped. it lasted about 48 hrs then i felt better.
last weeks injection i had the same except the sickness lasted 3 days and i started getting indegestion to. again not had that since coming of the mtx tablets.
then this week i did my injection on monday night and i'm still feeling awful now. sick, dizzy and indegestion has got worse.
i know it's the mtx as other tablets were ruled out before and this feels exactly the same as when i was taking mtx tablets.
i'm waiting for rheumy nurse to ring me, hopefully today. i've got my gp ringing asap as i need more anti sickness.
the worry is i'm struggling to eat or drink as everything makes me stomache churn and i'm now feeling light headed probably because of not drinking much. i'm trying to drink mint tea as it usually helps with the sickness and indegestion.
i'm due to do another injection on monday but to be honest i don't want to now, the thought of it is making me feel worse, if that makes sence, everytime i think about doing the injection i feel all hot and my head goes fuzzy.
i'm really hoping the rheumy nurse rings soon but due to staff shortages it may be next week before she can ring me.
sorry to moan i just needed to get that out.
i wish i could go and lie down but with a livey 2 yr old daughter thats just not going to happen.

    Hi Sue

That sounds awful, hope you hear from nurse or Dr. soon. Is there anyone that can come and give you a hand with your 2yr odl? Just until you get something sorted out and hopefully feel a bit better.
Hope that's sooner rather than later, keep us posted.

    Love

    Hi Sue

I'm so sorry you feel so poorly and with a 2 year old daughter, you can't be getting much rest either. Is there someone who could give you a break to get some rest?

I don't know what to say about your medication but perhaps someone else on here will have some ideas. I was only just diagnosed with RA a few weeks ago and have my first consultant appointment next week, so I don't know much about injections and all that.

Have you tried going back to your GP to let them know how you feel? Maybe if you told them all this, there's something they could do? Refer you to someone else?

Make sure you keep coming on here for inspiration and to let us know how you're doing.

i just spoke to my gp who is doing a prescription for a different anti sickness as the one i took at 7.30 this morning has done nothing, i'm sat here with tears rolling down my face, i feel awful.
i've managed to drink a cup of mint tea today and thats it, even that made me start heaving, sorry.
sarah, my little one is in full on mischier made so keeping me on my toes.
i'm waiting for my mum to ring soon, hopefully she can have sarah for an hour or so i can lay down.
i'm supposed to be going to my other daughters (she's 10) french play after school today, she is bound to get upset if i don't, but the thought of it is filling me with dread.
it's so frustrating as when i saw my rheumy 3 weeks ago i was feeling so much better.
still hopefully rheumy nurse will call back soon.
thanks for replying, mtx, i hate it!!!

I feel really bad for you Sue because you sound so poorly. I'm glad your mum can take your little one for you for a bit, it might make all the difference, you never know.

That's the only thing about these chat forums, when someone's upset, I just want to give them a hug and make them a cup of tea. Saying <HUG> just isn't the same :-(

i know! it's times like this i wish my friends weren't all working, a hug would be good right now.
still sarah should be going down for a nap at about 12.15 so if all else fails at least i'll have an hour or so of quiet.

    Hi Sue
I am sorry you are feeling so rough. And unfortunately, as parents we can`t just look after number 1 and curl up in bed. I hope your mum can look after your 2 year old so you can have a bit of a rest before the play at school. Are you able to get someone to collect your new anti sickness meds for you? I hope they help with the nausea etc..and that your rheumy nurse rings soon.
Hope you feel better soon. (and well done on being able to reduce your morphine dose, I am doing that now and have had an upset tummy for a couple of weeks)

yes reducing the morphine is hard, luckily my gp was very supportive, i did it slowly, started by reducing my night time dose down to 30mg one week, then morning one down to 30 the next week. then i stayed on that dose for a week before lowering my night one to 20mg for a week and then the morning one. i have to say that after many yrs of morphine induced constipation (sorry!) i have had a few days of the opposite, but i just kept thinking i would feel better soon. it's hard though. i've been on the 20g dose twice a day for a weel now, i'm not sure i'm ready to go any lower though as i have noticed the pain in my joints more than i used to, so i'm not sure what i'll do next. i still take oromorph medicine when i need it but it's not as often as i though it would be. so i guess as one thing gets better, something else gets worse, swings and roundabouts!!!

    Oh Suz
So upset to read your thread :(
You are suffering too much. At least the gP has got you some more anti sickness to try.
How long must you suffer this for?? It is no good when you can't eat or drink. I do wish there was something I/we could do to help.
I hope to goodness the rheumy team get back to you asap.
    All my very best wishes.
    Toni xx :( x

i've just put sarah down for a nap so at least it's quiet for a while, i feel bad saying that but she really is in a mischievious mood today.
it's nice to be able to sit down for a minute, i just tried some mint tea again, had a sip but it still makes me feel sick, but hey the new tablets should help later.
thank you all, i feel like i only moan at the moment, what with my painful hands and this sickness, i've just had enough. it's so hard keeping up with a 2 yr ld to, still at least my eldest is ok. she will be upset if i miss her play though so i'll get my tablets as soon as sarah wakes up, then they should be working in time. i'm going to get some indegestion stuff to, can anyone recomend anything? i usually make do with mint tea as it does really work but not today, gp said to try gaviscon liquid, it tastes revolting i know! but if it helps then yay!

Hi Sue, I hope you get a rest while your daugter rests. I'm so sorry that you feel so awful but the new anti-sickness should help. I really wish I could offer practical help, I don't know about ra meds except what I've read here, maybe theres another drug you could have? Hugs and good wishes along the line, Love Sue.xxx

    Hi Sue

I hope you are ok hun. Could you be having withdrawal from the morphine because you have cut dosage in half? I don't know what the injections are that you are having so I am unfamilar if they could cause the symptoms also. What anti-emetic's are you taking?

Take care and a big hug from me x

    Hi Sue
You sound so miserable would love to be able to do something practical to help but best i can do is send you cyber hugs along with the others. Having to look after a lively 2 year old must really stretch your resources. There are other meds around so hopefully your rheumy will find one that suits you better. Do keep pestering them though and tell them how hard you are finding looking after the children feeling so sick.
Take care now and hope you feel better soon

    Hi
I use gaviscon liquid when I need it, you can get a couple of flavours but i prefer the original, aniseed i think.
Hope you got to the play and the new tablet helped the sickness.
    Take care

    HI Suze,

sorry to catch up on this thread and see how awful you feel right now.

i know it isn't really any consolation to know that others feel the same .... but right now I do!! I missed my last MTX injection due to mouth ulcers, and after a fight have got them to agree only to reduce it by 2.5 to 22.5 (was on 25mg & they wanted to change it back to 20  but that wouldn't be enough for my joints .... so I cried on the phone and that did the trick  !)

I had a new injection yesterday, and today I have been really wiped out and sleepy. Also tonight I am feeling rather sick, and it is just the same sick that the tablets used to make me. I wonder why I only occasionally feel sick with the injections and I have come to the conclusion that it varies according to how tired I am ..... and how much of certain foods I have eaten.

so ....... try and rest whenever you can ........ leave whatever you can for someone else to do (or for you when you feel better) and I'll add a few things that help me to live with the sickness, in case they might be of help to you.

thinking of you and sending hugs ((((((((((((())))))))))))

Things that help me when I feel sick:
eating small pieces of crystallised ginger. (carry some with you when out)

drinking herbal teas (NOT echinacea - can't have with MTX) rather than regular tea or coffee

not eating really spicey foods, or anything with chilli in.

eating something every couple of hours so I never get really hungry
