Hello---I am a neubie here--i have been told by my gp that i have fluid on my right knee--she felt it was so bad she has by-passed the physio assessment and referred straight to the knee pathway cliniI live 4 miles from work and rurally--but i could no way do it any way ( iam am c at hospital. i got an appt in 2 weeks--which sounds good to me..
this has all come on over the last 6-8 weeks and the pain at times is excruciating.
i take diclofenic and paracetamol --but they do not touch it.
i cannot drive as i had a bump last w/e and could not depress brake pedal due to excruciating shooting pain up over the knee (this was new )anyone any idea of a painkiller that may help and of any specific excercise that may help. Does going up and dpwn stairs help or not--i think not some how.
thank you for listening dorothykd

Hello and welcome to the site. Sounds like a nasty state you're in. No way must you risk driving, but I know how hard it is as I live in a small village with no shop a few miles from anywere but don't be tempted to risk it! Perhaps you could try an ice pack on your knee for 10 mins at a time. A packet of peas wrapped in a cloth may help. Ordinary painkillers you take for a headache are probably the best thing to start with and maybe ask the chemist or doctor about something else if that doesn't work.
Hope you feel better soon.

Hi
Sorry your knee is giving you so much trouble, bet you can't wait for your appointment!
Try putting some ice on your knee. (frozen peas or gel packs that you put in the fridge) Best with your leg up on a chair or on your bed. If this gives you relief you can do this several times a day. Leave it on for about 10 mins just make sure you look after your skin and don't get a 'cold burn'.
Walking up and down stairs is not great for it. If you have to, keep it to the minimum and take some of your weight on a bannister if you have or maybe borrow a stick. Use your good leg to lead up the stairs but your bad one to lead down the stairs as it less stressful on your painful knee.( Can remember it as good leg up to heaven bad leg down to hell!!!) Best exercises are non weight bearing ones to strengthen the muscles but without putting strain on your joint.
Hope this helps
