Went swimming for the first time

Took advantage of the over 60's free swimming and went this morning. I did enjoy it as my swimming pool has like a sauna, the bubbles were very helpful to massage my shoulders and neck. I spent most of my time in the children's pool as it is warmer. I did go to the main pool, but as I am not a good swimmer, I had to stop three times to complete a length, the pool is warm as well. There were a lot of huffing and puffing and my lt shoulder gets more irritated. The pool was almost empty. The only problem I find is the steps are not user friendly and if you have arthritis or knees problem, you will have getting in and out, you can hardly see the steps and I was a bit worried how I was going to climb. Next time will have to take hubby with me. I will try to keep this up once a week as a gentle exercise and see whether it will help with the arthritis. My goal is to swim the length without stopping.

As it was my first time in the swimming pool, I had an embarrassing moment, I did not take any cash with me and therefore could not use the locker, did not know I have to put £1. I have not been to my local swimming pool for nearly 15 yrs. I was at a lost and asked a lady who told me I have to put a £1 in the inside slot. I did not bring any money as it was my first time in the NEw Aqa Vale and have only my cards with me. She gave me £1 without hesitation when I asked for her name to repay her, she said to forget it. I was really touched by her gesture and could not find her to give her the money back.

I am sure I will suffer later on for my swimming exercise. Take care everybody. Marie

    Hi Marie,

Well done. I go to hydrotherapy once a week (fortunately I live near to a disability centre and the pool is open to the public) and although I feel tired for the rest of the day it is worth it because I am able to put my joints through their full range of movement (as far as they'll go anyway).

Keep it up it's worth it.

    Luv Legs :D

PS If there's a Revitalise Centre in anyone's area all their pools are open to the public. It's £13 annual membership and £3 per swim - carers are free. They keep the temp of the pool around 36 degrees which is hot.
    Love, Legs x

    Hi Marie
Well you are really going for it aren't you?!
    Well done.
It sounds to me as thouigh you have done about the right amount - not too much, so hopefully you will not suffer too much from doing it.
I think you should give yourself a pat on the back!!
Yes you did have a few hairy moments - the locker and the steps - but you're still going back!
    Good on you!
    Take care
