Hi, Welcome to the site, I hope you find it as useful as I have.
My dentist told me I have a soggy jaw...... Not sure what that means either  I'm glad they are going to,keep an eye on you though. He did say it wasn't that important...... :? Just soggy and may lose me some teeth! All I can think it means is something to do with arthritis in the jaw? Keep us posted please if you find out what it all means.
Dentist use a different terminology to drs (apparently) as my 'lovely helpful dr said how should I know what it means...... :? You could talk to the helpline team, they are very good and if you troll the old posts there may be something in them?
Anyway Take care and welcome :D Cris

    Hi all
Soggy jaw!!? very interesting terminology! Sounds like bone loss or bone thinning. Steroids lovely things that they are for pain, can cause as a side effect bone thinning. Literally the bone cells are not laying down enough bone tissue and the bone becomes thinner and weaker. The process is reversible, you might try a combination of calcium and vitamen D (the latter helps the absorption of the calcium) to help build up the bones. If the problem continues despite this there is a bone protective drug that can be prescribed that is given once weekly.
Does soggy jaw stop you from talking?? if so my family have requested that i get myself a dose of it. :P

    Hi
Not sure if this helps or not I too have severe boneloss in my jaw and it has nothing to do with arthritis.
I was referred to the dental hospital and they said it was probably due to the fact I smoked from the age of 15 (bad girl that I am lol)
I have now stopped smoking for nearly 4 years :P :P (good girl that I am)

Hi, A dentist told me (when I was in my early 20s :( ) that my gums had started to receed with age, thats where the expression 'long in the tooth' comes from! . I had visions of all my teeth dropping out before I was 30, but that hasn't happend! :) Nice people, dentist :!: :):):) . Sue

Hi Nutmeg or may I call you Nut for short :?:

Welcome to the forum and your first posting. :)

I've RA was told at the Dental Hospital, from x-rays, that my jaw hinge has worn flat at the top - it was painful in the early days and with flares and my jaw has a restricted opening now - although my husband still says I have a big mouth

I have had to have a couple of wisdom teeth extracted at the hospital because my dentist can't get at them very well but otherwise I don't know any difference.
