Hi
I have rheumatoid arthritis and i havw found in the last few years that when i eat Dairy or tomatoes my pain is so bad that i have to rest the next day. Has anybody had this or eliminated something from their diet to improve their pain.

Hi
I have a problem with tomatoes too, took me ages to work out the connection  I know quite a lot of people have changed to soya milk instead. It's not horrible but I tried it and thought the sweet one was much nicer.

Dito I have recently stopped eating tomatos and what a difference. I also had to stop oranges, though can still take orange juice for some reason. Linda0

Really? I love oranges and have them almost every day! Maybe I should try cutting them out.
Do you think it's raw tomatoes or any kind that's been cooked etc? Because I eat tomatoes in curries and stuff but vary rarely raw?
Is there anything that actually helps that people eat?0 -
something in diet drinks sets me off, if i have a diet coke for example or even the cadburys option drinks then flare ups often follow. wierdly i can have 1 cup of options but if i have 2 in a day then always have a flare up next day. i learnt the 2nd tme it happened so have necer risked it since, i just have a cup as a treat now and again.
other things that might be causes are fruit shoot drinks, had a nasty flare after drinking one of them. it was my daughters and i only had a few sips!
i'm not 100 % sure it was fruit shoot, but diet drinks defo cause a problem.0 -
Hi,
Glad to see this post .... my rheumy thinks I'm mad.
I can't eat:
chocolate, cheese, tomatoes, BOILED potatoes, cream, yoghurt, peppers, oranges, apples, grapes or anything with tomato sauces.
I can get away with mash or oven roast pots ..... strange.
If I'm having a really bad day I consider what I've eaten and it's usually something I've eaten. Last few days I've succumbed to chocolate .... well, I ain't got a lot in life! ... and boy, am I sorry. Hurting ... big time.0 -

I'm really sorry for those of you who can't eat what they fancy. My nephew has colitus and is lactose intolorant, he has to have soya milk and special pasta and all sorts of things are a big no now.
Someone told me that citrus fruits are bad for arthritis but I don't seem to be any worse with or without them. I suppose it depends on each person. Love SUE0 -
Lol at this post, I thought my Granny was going mad saying she goes "funny" after eating tomatoes or oranges! I'm off to phone her now0

Hi, i was suggested to have a test to see if I had anything upset my arthritis (by freind not doctor!) when i spoke to my rheumatoligist about this she said diet dont effect just have a healthy balanced diet with plenty of fish and you will be ok. we i had the test privately. and up came so many of the things you have said especially tomatoes, oranges and diary.
i cut it all from diet and did not see any differnce and introduced bits gradually in, still didn't notice any differnces. But the person doing my test said every thing has a high acid content so thats prob the issue with mixing with arthritis. But just cause cutting out for me didn't work does not mean it might not help others! if you think it is giving you issues try. need to do for few weeks so can get all from your system. remember if cutting out something like diary must replace the calcium you would have got from it
good luck anyone that tries xx0
