Does the Swelling go Down, ever?

Hello everyone,
Thought I'd ask for some advice from all you experts out there :-) When I get swellings, they don't seem to go down, well, they haven't for the past couple of months... Do they ever?
Also, is it right for the actual swelling not to hurt or not be where the pain is? I do have a consultant's appointment this Thursday but I can't wait till then to find out!
It sounds really vain, but I've always had really nice feet. My mum point blank refused to let me wear high or pointy shoes until I'd left school to let my feet grow properly and they were always perfectly formed (and I've always had nice ankles!), but now the little toes on both feet are swollen and red and I have grown two swellings either side, kind of like bunions but not, if you know what I mean. And my left ankle is swollen so it doesn't match the right.
I'm sorry to bore you with this, but I don't know who to share it with. My mum and sister tell me I shouldn't wear high heels but then what enjoyment do I have left??? And I only wear high heels at work, where I sit down all day. Not at the weekends or evenings.
Please don't tell me to abandon my poor innocent shoes!

my feet, legs and left hand have been grossly swollen for years sometimes requiring me to go out in slippers 3 sizes bigger couldnt even get crocs on after being ignored for ages finally refered to the lymphoedema nurse who said it was a common side effect of ra compression stockings and a glove took me down to near normal size again...my shoes are all to big! achieved it without horrible water tablets too. i havent worn them in the warmer weather and they are swelling back up apparantly if not treated it can become permanent so get reffered hon x0
