Hey all. I hope you are doing well. My last post was a couple of weeks ago and I was feeling rather good....well it all went downhill, I took terrible pains in my lower back, numbness in my legs, urinary problems and a host of other things...so I was hospitalised as the docs thought it could be something called Cauda Equina...(of course I wasn't told this!) Anyways, I ended up having an Mri which showed 2 or 3 prolapsed discs (i cant remember which - the morphine does that to you!)....and degeneration of the discs....the phsyio, registrars and consultants all said they could see the arthritis on the xray, ct and mri...however one consultant sai it wasn't arthritis just degeneration!!!!!!??????!!!!!! I'm so confused! Anyways, I thankfully didnt need surgery as I had been on anti inflammitories (Sp?) so there was no nerve compression...Im still in agony and I am waiting on my nhs emergency (ah hem) physio appt. I have also changed my meds and I'm on 1000mg of Paracetamol every 4 hours with 30 mg of codeine...is anyone else on this? I have never been so painfully constipated in all my life!!!!! Not Nice.

Poor you,and just to top it the constipation thing.
    Codeine,nasty little bu****s.
I hope you get things sorted quickly but it seems as though where Arthur is concerned everybody is in the Twilight zone,no hurry,no worry.
All you want and deserve is to be as pain free as possible
    Rant over,sorry.

    Hi Weerosie
You poor thing  :!: :!:
    You have all my sympathy.
Prune juice girl that's what you need. When I had my back probs I didn't 'go' for 15 yes 15 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Use the prine juice. It also tastes quite nice. Not too much half a glass a day will do the 'job'!!
    Take care

    HI
Sorry you've had such a horrible time. I sometimes think docs get a kick out of confusing us :x Osteoarthritis is sometimes called degenartive wear and tear. Or just wear and tear. I don't know if that helps you. Love SUe :)

    Hi

You poor thing, I know the agony  Did they offer you a back support? I had one made for me when I had it, could hardly move in it but it did help.

Your other problem lactulose is good, tastes so sweet that it's not pleasant but does the job, pardon the pun :)

    Hi
Sorry you are going through so much discomfort and pain at the moment. It's difficult when everyone speaks a different language!!
But as Sue has said, it is the same thing. I hope your prune juice works and that you are feeling better soon

Only way I have found to deal with this uncomfortable problem is to have a 'rest day' every fourth day, pills for three then no pills for two, things happen very quickly then!

    8) Its a grin, honest!

Thanks everyone...constipation is abaiting...long live lactulose! Just typical that pain killers actutally cause something that puts you in even more pain. Vonski, I haven't been offered a back support yet as my right hip sticks way out to the side due to a sports injury, so the physios at the hospital think that with some work I may be able to re-train the muscles to act as their own support (i hope that makes sense!) Apparently if I put a support on now it will force my muscles into a spasm, and that will put more pressure on the discs again?! The only thing to stop that happening is diazepam - which of course, I am allergic too. Just typical I swear!!

I'm pottering about the house, looking forward to a relaxed easter, and hopefully going back to work after the holidays...ssp just won't pay the mortgage! xx

    Hi

So is it lots of physio for you? At least with your back it's quite gentle or it used to be :)

Hope you have a good Easter and don't try and do too much.

    Hi Vonski,

Physio seems to be the way forwars...apparently where my discs have prolapsed is too close to the nerves, so surgery is a last resort...Luckily...I'd rather give physio a bash first - as usual it is just frustrating waiting for the nhs appointment, and a private physio won't touch me because of the risk of manipulating my spine into the wrong position! On the brighter side -constipation is now under control -woohoo!!! Hoping to visit some family over easter and just relax!

Hope you are all doing good today. x
