Blue badge blues

For anyone with an arthritic hip, knee or ankle/foot, there is bound to be quite a long period before and after surgery when walking is very difficult. Therefore, I think there should be temporary issue of blue badges until the person's condition improves, and they should trust GP's to assess this. This doesn't exist at the moment, I don't think, so we should all write to our MP's and the Health secretary about it.

Hi,
I applied for my blue badge earlier this year via the library drop in who sent the form to my GP. The GP would not OK the application because he said I could walk 100 yards, so it was denied. I had not seen that GP since the first diagnosis last August.
I then applied for DLA online and could not believe it was granted, in that application I named the consultant who performed the arthscopy and knows what I have, also sent a copy of a brief report on my condition from the consultant, that was a good idea! I then reapplied for the badge and got it no problem.
I have now ordered a motability car and await its delivery sometime over the next few weeks.
Thanks to my GP who refused the badge in the first place, that was all I wanted but ended up with lots more!

eckstardeluxe: Thanks for the info I think your right - to deter these obnoxious people from making false claims the punishments should be given a much higher profile. As nb says, monitoring them after they're caught out continues to cost money
Presumably most of them can't pay the thousands back in 28 days -so do they just have to keep paying back so much per week or something? Serves them right!
