For those with OA in neck and been diagnosed with trapped nerve. What treatment did you have and was it helpful? I am thinking a chiropractor might be able to help as the physio has a long waiting list. Anybody can advise on this, pl? Thanks, Marie

Hi, I've got a trapped nerve in my neck but I've never been to a chropractor. I do know a lot of people find them helpful, but I'm just a bit worried about finding a good one and also I'm not too keen on the idea - maybe a bit cynical. I have had private physio, paid for by my employer, and that was OK, although the NHS physio was more helpful. If you go down that road, I'd ask my GP first and also ask friends for the name of someone they have experience of. Sorry, if I sound a bit of a wet blanket, but its just the way I am! :( Hope you get sorted out. Love Sue

Poor you - I know just how painful and frustrating that can be!

like woodbon I would suggest you talk it through with your GP first.

Also, if you do go privately I would suggest you research the relevant occupational regulatory bodies (several have websites with good info on what questions you should ask and what qualifications you should look for)so that you get a proper qualified person and not a 'cowboy' practitioner.

Personally I we fast-tracked by my GP for NHS physio, due to my RA and how the pain was affecting me. The physio exercises were (and are) hard work but in my case well worth it!

    best of luck!

I had treatment for my cervical spondilosis years ago with a chiropractor, successfully.I actually found 2 in the yellow pages and chose the 1 with most letters after his name.
After the first manipulation I had more movement in my neck than in the previous 2 years worth of physio and soundwave treatments on offer from the osteopathic team.
I also had appointments for my hips when they first went west.
I live in the North East and Mr Lomax the chiro was brilliant. He has retired now but I remember that there were guidelines to the Guild and certain qualifications that he met.
It's definitely better to go to someone that has been recommended
but I don't know how you would find one.
Good hunting and I hope you have the success I had.

Thanks for all your replies. I think I will give NHS Physio a try since my GP will try to fast track my appointment.

In the past I have seen a Chiro and Osteopath with my chronic back but they are very expensive. I remember haying to pay £25 per session at the Chiro and it lasted only 15 mins and had to go twice a week. I was working at that time and could afford it. Even having seen all these professionals, physio, rheumatologist, chiro, osteo and pain management clinic & acupuncture & back classes. None has been able to tell me what's wrong with my back & I am still suffering from a dull back ache which flares up from time to time.

My neck pain was diagnosed in January 09 after X-Ray and last week by scan. It seems back pain is not taking very seriously. GP would not do a scan, he says he will not serve any purpose. Since I was working as a nurse, he said it is work related. They used the word mechanical back pain since they do not know the cause.
