Help for my dad please..............?

My dad has arthritis in an ankle and it's about the only thing that slows him down or causes him grief.
In addition to prescription medication /. help from the doctor. He has spent a fortune on gels and creams that get advertised in the sunday newspapers for what appears to be a very limited benefit.
I'm no doctor of course but my view is that people suffering from pain / discomfort will buy products they read of in papers whilst they are vunerable and infirm in the hope of some relief.
If there was a reaidily available cure surely surely it would corner the market and would be a household name etc.
This week my dad has found a thing called "Circulation Booster":
http://www.circulationbooster.co.uk/...FYUSzAodsAzuRw
He wants an opinion that I cant really give him - a google search seems to bring up lots of adverts but I was hoping for public endorsement or critique?
Does anyone know of this product and what is your opinion please?
Alternatively do you know of a suitable forum that might be used by arthritis sufferers who may have an opinion?
Please let me know?
Thanks for your help,

Hi there!
Link does not work for me either. You have certainly hit the nail right on the head, first time, when you say "If there was a readily available cure surely surely it would corner the market and would be a household name etc.". YESWe would all be buying it by the gallon on here if something REALLY worked for everyone.
Does he take any prescribed painkillers or anti inflammatories? Has he been to see a physio therapist? Is it osteo arthritis your dad has (wear and tear)?
I would not keep spending money on these things advertised in the paper or anywhere else. Invest the money instead on some private physio sessions, if your dad has not already tried that.
Best wishes,

Hello
I agree with the others. Sadly their is no magic cure or instant pain relief, I only wish there was! I think its sad and horrible the way people can be exploited when they are suffering pain. I'm not saying all the treatmetns don't work, and if you need a cream the chemist or gp will advise on the most suitable, but it will only help a bit, not cure. Love SUe0 -
Hi English,
I have tried a lot of circulation drugs and creams over the years......... None of them made a jot of difference a they don't tackle the underlying cause.......Has your dad been checked out for circulation problems as if he hasn't maybe he should be? Its worth asking as the prescription stuff does help. They used to use tablet dilateries on me but now I am older I have a drip for it instead.
My advice on anything not prescription would be don't waste your money. Take care0 -
Hi,
My names marie sorry to hear about your dad I do no how he feel as I had the worst pain ever in my ankels(have RA) and found walk almost impossable going down to the shop was a nightmare .
had most pain killers dont really work so decided on ankel replacement, was the hardest surger ever as surgeon decided to do both one after the other so about 18 month ,this was the best thing ever for me, I had no up or down movement in either of my ankels now I have some movement in both and no pain.
If replacment is not possable he could have ankel fusion were the ankel is fused in one place so no movement and no pain .
Best thing is for him to speak to his doctor and see if you local hospital does ankel replacment most just do fusion which is easy.
The hospital I went to and still do is called Nuffield Orthopedic which is in Oxford
Hope this helps a bit

The correct link is http://www.circulationbooster.co.uk
Halfway down this page and just below a paragraph which starts, 'High Tech Health has produced a new TV commercial called ‘Great Circulation’ is a film of a TV commercial, during which it says, at 14 seconds in, 'Consult your doctor. If your symptoms are not due to any serious underlying disorder, The Circulation Booster could help you.' at 32 seconds in, 'Not intended to treat serious or prolonged conditions.'
So, there you have it. I am sure that some conditions are alleviated by the use of this and some may claim that it helps. I have no idea.

Hi english
I also have arthritis in my ankle, and I sympathise with your Dad because it can be very painful, and makes walking very difficult. Has your Dad seen a consultant for advice? I had x-rays, and saw a consultant, who could see signs of arthritis, but it isn't bad enough for surgery.
I'm not sure that a circulation booster would help very much, because arthritis is mainly wear and tear on the joint, rather than a circulation problem. I would be wary of buying things advertised in the press, because they rarely live up to their claims, and are often expensive. I take prescription diclofenac for my ankle and knee pain, and also paracetamol if I need it. I also take a supplement called Osteo-Biflex, which is high strength gloucosomine, plus other things.( from Boots) I think this helps. I also bought an ankle support from Boots, which is good. If you ask them at the pharmacy, someone will make sure you get the right size, and they are very helpful.

Hi English
If this is one of those very expensive massage thingys please tell your dad no. I took an advert to my Dr. and she said that although she doesn't know much about it she thinks it's just another money maker. I'm afraid we have all spent a fortune of cures that don't work, a few ease the pain for a while but it's soon back. One of the better creams I've found, and I've tried loads, is Boswellia and Commiphora Cream. If you want more details let me know and I'll send a PM.
