Hi all.

Had my second lot of Mtx on Saturday and just wondered if anyone else gets the most hideous headaches? Like the worst hangover I ever had.

I've had headaches as side effects to Sulfa and Diclofenac and had to stop them due to liver probs. So really hope that this isn't the same thing.

The other question is how long did it take to work for you? I think I can detect some improvement... but may just be further improvement due to the steroids I had a month ago.

    Hi Sunpainter

I am on mtx but can't say that I have noticed getting any really bad headaches might be worth mentioning to your doctor. It does take a long while for the mtx to work it was about 4 months for me but once it had got working, felt alot better, but then again its made me think cause I have been having steroid injections every 3 months as well but mMy doctor thinks I can still be improved so has just added lefludomide in so lets see.

    hey

I was initally perscribed methatrexate, and in the first week- 2 weeks i expierienced the most vulgar headaches and feeling of sickness, i went to my doctor as it was the week before xmas and couldnt get to the hosp to talk to my specialist, and my doctor advised me to stop the mtx untill i am able to get in touch with the hospital.

in the end the hospital told me to stop the mtx, as it wasnt a high dosage and i was already suffering side effects. I have recently been put onto sulfasalzine, which seems to be working alot better than the mtx did. Everyone reacts differently to medication, so your headaches may just be an initial side effect that might gradually wear off, talk to your rheumy about this, as they wil be ableto give you the correct advise.

    hope all goes well

Hi all, thanks for your posts. Headaches much better now I have cut right back on caffine. It might be wishful thinking... but joints a tiny bit better too.

Only took first dose of MTX wednesday but I have woken with the most horrible headache, and I must admit I have only ever had one of these when I had a right hangover, glad to read this, at least I know it's part of the meds, I have been on mtx before when i was younger but could not remember what side effects i had, I believe I had hair loss, but now it might be this flipping headaches, hope they wear off soon.

It does give me headaches but very strange ones. It's right at the back of my head and feels like someone is squeezing my head. Side effects do pass and I'm hoping this will too!
