For about six years I was having electric shock type pains in the groin which someone suggested could be arthritis. I havent really pursued that but in the past year, i developed confirmed arthritis in my thumb base and wrist and now when i am asleep i find myself waking up after a couple of hours with my arms feeling like i have been holding lead weights for hours and my elbow feel like i've hit a brick wall. It now hurts to pick up and carry things. I also broke two legs eighteen months ago and am having pins removed from one knee shortly. The specialist who saw me about the accident is also seeing me about my hips in a few weeks time, even though i mentioned it to him when i had my examination for insurance report last month, and he said there was nothing remarkable about hips. I am worried that i may be developing arthritis in more places, or could it be rheumatoid arthritis as well. My brother has that but to be honest I know nothing about symptoms other than hot joints and I don't seem to get that, just this awful lead weight feeling which doesn't go away until i move or rub them and it doesn't wear off during the day. any advice would be welcome. I have medication from the doctor but it does not agree with me and she wouldn't prescribe what another doctor told me about, i am seeing the speciailist soon but he seemed to trivialise my problems when i first saw him. I have to do heavy manual work using hands and it is painful to drive and work these days. does anyone have similar things i can relate to please?

Hi
I have OA in my hips and get that sharp groin pain every now and again.
With your arms I too have a problem with my shoulder which I am convinced is OA and my arm is extremely heavy and painul when I lie on it during the night, I have a doctors appointment next week and I am going to ask them to try to find out what the problem is with it.

Hi Denise
thanks for taking the time to reply, appreciate that. I would be interested to find out what they say to you as it sounds something similar. I am quite stoical with regard to pain and not one to make a fuss but this is waking me up after a couple hours of sleep and I can't get back. Fell asleep at the wheel last week and only just averted hitting a bollard, very worrying but telling the doctor just gets sympathetic glances and no actions!0 -
Hi, First of all welcome, I’m afraid I’m afraid I’m not going to be much help
But thought I would tell you how much I sympathise with you. Although retired now through arthritis I know what its like trying to work in so much pain. One of the problems we suffer is that whilst in constant pain we don’t look ill so people assume we are fine. I think perhaps the hospital doctor assumes your pain is a result of your injury. You could ask your GP to send you to see a Rheumy specialist, Have you had any tests for arthritis. Arthritis can and does strike in some strange places and in some cases muscle pain. Not much point in speculating what it might or might not be you need to have a good chat with the doctors looking after you. I hope things get better. Take Care

Hi there
It is difficult sometimes after reading a thread to know what to reply as there is little information to go on.
From reading inbetween the lines, I think you may need to become more assertive when speaking with these medics. If they are being flippant, eyes glazing over, that sort of thing, as they so often are/do, tell them, that your health is very important to you and you need answers, not sympathy and being brushed aside. What about bloodtests, xrays, seeing a rheumatologist, physiotherapist, pain management clinic, second opinions, finding a medication that works for you.
Help is out there, but it is finding someone who is interested in you and your ailments. We should not have to fight for this, but very many of us appear to have to do exactly that.
You should not be in so much pain, and doing manualwork/ driving for a living, it could be dangerous, if you are not sleeping and so on. Perhaps you should emphasise this too when talking to the medical profession.
I wish you well and am sorry to hear your story. Let us know how you go on.
Best wishes,

Hi again
I too have previously mentioned it to 2 GP`s, the consultant when I saw him about my hips and none of them took any notice of me, but I, same as you cant sleep on my shoulder and arm and I cant sleep on the other side either because of my hip. So when I see to doc on Monday I am going to ask or a X Ray to see if it is OA like I think it is.
