    Hi
I take plaquenil and it is to help with photosensitivity. I have just checked instructions and it says it is to help skin problems caused by sunlight. It could be the sun is stronger than you think and you do need suncream! Otherwise check with your pharmacist or gp.

    Congrats on a successful day!!!!

    Hi Suzie :D
I have also become photosensitive recently and I'm taking Hydroxychloroquine. When in the sun, I've starting developing 'prickly heat' rash which tingles (like droplets of water falling on my skin). I put it down to the med but there is nothing in the leaflet relating to this. I am very allergic to lots of things, though. I also got a little burnt on Sunday...time to slap on the sun lotion and take care not to overdo it, me thinks.
Just another thought ...if you are taking any NSAIDs along with Hydroxy it might be one of those causing it.
    Hugs

    Hi Suzie :D:D

On reading blurb about Plaquenil it says it may cause you to become sunburned more easily. Avoid the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Plaquenil . Use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing if you must be outside for more than a short time.

The protective clothing sounds a bit over the top, doesn't it? I would have thought sun tan lotion would do the trick.

    Hi Elaine :D:D

It said exactly the same for Hydroxychloroquine.

    Hi Elna :D
I do take Plaquenil (Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate).
I have read my leaflet again and it doesn't mention anything about photosensitivity being a side effect. I think I remember (not 100% sure though...brain fog  ) that it used to be a caution but my recent meds do not mention anything about it.
It actually says that Plaquenil is used for skin problems which are sensitive to sunlight.

    Hi Elaine

Ooops! I did not realise they were the same med. I googled Plaquenil and sunburn and there it was in black and white!

    Take care

    hi

    thanks ladies for your replys.
after posting i did a little looking on the net and found i couple of bit of info saying that it could cause fair skined (which i am) to become more prone to the sun! however the general info and that as state on the packet doesn't say anything along those lines.
just tried to ring rhemy nurse but she is on holiday till next week because i don't think i can cope with being a vampire and having to stay out the sun, after all with 2 little kids most of the summer is spent outside! if i can't take a couple of hours outside in april god knows what it's going to be like in the full summer heat...thats if we get a summer :o what worse is the sun has such a great effect on me and makes me feel so much better i can't hide away from it!
