Ruddy plastic bottles

Have just spent 20 mins trying to open an 'easy open' plastic, slightly fizzy drink bottle.
Surely its not that difficult to create a bottle than can be opened by someone other than Superman, the Incredible Hulk, or the OH with a cut-and-unscrew tool. :x :x

We should NOT have to rely on special aids for disabled people to open a simple bottle. This makes me REALLY mad  .... did you realise? :D:wink:

Bottles are a **(*&^&^ arent they?! I admit I am gadget queen, especially in the kitchen, but even with my trusty grippy gadget they can fight back! I then resort to one of the neighbours!

We should'nt have to though Josie, should we? Its the supermarket's convenience that does this, and stuff the needs of the customers.

Contact the manufacturers and tell them about your problems with their bottles. They may not realise that they won't open easily.

While all drink and foodstuff has to have a certain amount of security to prevent tampering, it is often
    over-the-top.(pun)k060.gif

That's true. I know with local small producers, customer's comments matter, but with the bigguns, you might as well spit in the wind.
I have spoken to my local 'superstore' and their attitude is, quite frankly, 'get st*****d' :x

the same has happened to me today.not with a bottle top as such, but i do have trouble with most of them.
i have an ear infection & this is the 3rd attempt to try to clear it.so of to the chemist with my prescription to get drops.got home to find it was a screw top lid with a seal to break.
could i undo it  NO i had to ask o/h to do it.if i hadnt got him i would be sitting here with raging earache & no1 to open my drops.Argh!!!!
perhaps we should all write to the companys to complain,as i found them difficult before arthr came along. i also hate the seals on the milk bottles cant grip it to peel it off either have to stab it & put a hole in it.debsx

I use a little pair of pliers to get the stupid tops off milk bottles - was my dads idea. Usually works quite well

At the moment I only have the use of one hand as the other's in plaster for a couple more weeks after surgery so opening anything is tricky if not impossible!
I've managed to adapt to do things one handed but shoelaces still elude me! However, they are normally tricky anyway! Opening bottles or jars are totally impossible even with both hands.
Does anyone know of any gadgets that actually work?

Sympathy here - I like fizzy water - but I keep dropping the blooming bottles! I had a hard job getting a yoghurt of all things open the other day - so I had a rant on the yogurt website - they prob thought crazy woman (ok) but it made me feel better!!

Its fiddling annoying. Some good gadgets, like your dad's pliers Josie, and no doubt things we've adapted, but it is wrong that we have to.
Also, on the 'green, planet conservation' front, all that packaging is not good.
Right, I feel a campaign coming on. Anyone agree?

Local branches are too far down the pecking order.

Register your complaint at http://www.howtocomplain.com/ This is a free complaint handling service and saves a lot of chasing as to who to send to.d030.gif

*lol* I love reading these long threads which I didn't realise were going on!

Bottles, yes, I can sympathise as when my left hand plays up, I find I can't grip the bottle to open it with my absolutely fine right hand! SO annoying! But I have a saviour in the form of my 10 year old daughter who likes to come to my rescue.

It's a bit off the subject but it upsets me when I can't plait my girls' hair in the mornings if my left hand feels stiff. I may have to get one of those braider-thingies. Has anyone used them? What are they like on thick hair?

Yes, I find the small juice cartons dificult to open in the morning. The ones with the really tight screw caps that have the plastic safety thingy you need to break when you first open it. Very frustrating!
I have taken to Don Simon juice, on offer at the moment for £1 at Morrisons and Tesco! the screw tops are much larger and a lot easier to open!
