Hi,
I was due to be done on Wednesday, and they have rung and cancelled me today. My bag is packed - all the equipment is in place and the fridge is empty. I am very fed up and still in pain. New date is in 2 weeks time, but on past form they will cancel that as well. I have been waiting since the 25th September 2008 for a revision to my hip.
Is there anything I can do? I need to get back to work.
Thanks,
Teresa

Hi Teresa
I'm so sorry that your operation has been cancelled, especially as you are in pain. To be waiting so long seems unreasonable.
I'm not sure what you can do,if anything. You could ask the kind people on the helpline, or give them a ring. They will probably be able to advise you. Can your doctor do anything to help speed things up?
I hope you get your op soon.

Hi Teresa
I am so sorry to hear this. I would be really upset, angry, annoyed and more. You gear yourself up for an op and make arrangements and then, nothing. Not that it helps much but what are their reasons for cancelling your op?
Not sure anything you do will get you an earlier, guaranteed date. You could write to your MP, the hospital executive, local councillor to complain and your doctor and HR at your workplace could perhaps write to put pressure on the hospital but not sure if even that would make much difference.
Let's hope that the date in two weeks time, all goes to plan.
Fingers crossed for you,

Hi i'm sorry you've had this happen to you, it's happened to me with appointments several times this year but I'd be more upset if it was an op. You can try ringing them but I've done it with all my appointments to no avail.
However, they cancelled my 20 week scan when i was pregnant and gave me an appointment 3 weeks later. I was very upset as knew I would probably find out the sex of our baby. Being very hormonal I called them and ended up crying on the phone, they gave me another appointment but earlier that day which was even better. I don't know if they gave me it just to get rid of the hysterical pregnant woman on the phone but it worked.
If they can't change it, try and keep your chin up, I know it's hard but the positive is you will get the op. take care x0 -

Hi there
Can't offer any practical advice but just a bit of sympathy. It must be so dreadful to have it all organised and be all worked up and then have it cancelled. I would have been devastated if it had happened to me when my ops were due!
Hope you manage to get an earlier date without mishaps
Take care Gillx0 -
Hi Theresa, like you Im playing the waiting game. My op for a THR was cancelled 2 days before, Im now waiting to go on the 13 May.
My op isnt straight forward so Ive got to wait for a particular surgeon. Im hoping it doesnt get cancelled again, it took me 3 years to pluck up courage to get it done! Its hard when youre in pain to pick yourself up, after being let down. I hope you get a date soon, take care jk0 -
Hi,
2 days cancellation is even worse. Like you my revision is a complex one and needs a particular specialist. I just get so angry about the drivel the goverment put out about treatment happening within 18 weeks.
I have put in a formal complaint and asked my MP to complain on my behalf. I am trying to make sure they don't do it to me again. I got spoilt I waited a whole 10 weeks for my original op. They don't seem to understand that constant pain and imobility makes you very grumpy. After a while the pain killers start to mess you up. My new date is the 6th May. I must be going crazy - I want to get back to school!!! Hope it goes well for you. The ops are worth having done. Mine has given me good service for 19 years. However with OA in the other hip, and RA as a totally separate condition I am feeling a bit hard done by.
Regards,

Hello, I am so very sorry for your inconvience and disappointment. It must be awful to wait such a long time and get ready, only to have everything cancelled at the last minite. I hope you soon get the op. over and done with and start to feel better. Love Sue0
