Hi there
Sorry ladies only
My mum has OA neck and shoulder and finds wearing her bra very uncomfortable and at the moment is having to go without which she finds very embarassing at her age. She is quite well endowered and so needs to be supported in that region but the weight really hurts her neck and shoulder.
Can anyone offer any suggestions???
Thanks
Gillx

Now that the warmer weather is on its way there are some tops in the shops with an in built support.Soft elastic holds your boobs in place. Not being very big myself these are adequate for me and might work better than none at all.
    Just a thought

What about a sports bra, or a really soft non-underwired jobby? Or she could try the vest/camisole thingys that have secret support in them.

Hello, as a carer I have had to dress many people with this problem. A sports bra is very good but I'd get one a size or so bigger, as the material can be VERY tight. Some ladies like the loose fitting cami vest type tops too. A good tip is to buy from a shop that will change them or give money back if they're not right! Hope this helps Sue

    Hi
would a strapless help at all? I know they don't give HUGE support, but they don't touch your neck or shoulders?
Hope you can get her sorted

I used to have massive boobs - there is no other way to describe them. I am quite little (size 10-12) and I used to be a bra size 34JJ. Boobs Jordan would be proud of.

I suffered terrible backache before I had RA but I went to Bravissimo and got measured for a bra. I invested in 4 bras and never looked back. They are very pricey (I paid about £36 for each bra) but they are expert bra makers and spend ages getting you the right bra. They have all kinds of underwear.

I'm not sure what your mum's budget is, but it's well worth saving up for.

I had a breast reduction a couple of years ago to a normal size but have always worn bras from this place. It's well worth the money.

Might be worth trying the front-fastening bras - as well as being easier to put on / do up they also tend to have broader straps which spread the weight a bit, and to be made of nice soft stretchy material. They're in lots of catalogues and I've also seen them advertised in women's magazines for mail order.

    Thanks girls
I dont know if sports bras/chicken filets etc would give her enough support but its worth looking into. The front fastener might help and i know that the make that you suggested Nina has a lot of different types. Will do some homework on that. Any other suggestions welcome as the more options for me to give her the more likely there will be one she likes.
Hope you are all ok. (the one problem i certainly don't have is how to support big boobs, now trying to find them..........! )

I'm the same, big boobs, I get a nice underwired one with thick straps, they are quite dear for a nice one though. I hate those granny bras you see. I actually got a couple of crackers in TJ Hughes lovely and feminine with polka dots, bra and knickers for under a tenner. That's 34 FF.

I bought a sports bra, which was very, very, firm support! The only problem was, it was so tight I had a job to put it on. Thats why I suggested previously to make sure it was big enough! These days, I do mine up at the front of my waist, twist it round and pull it up over my shoulders, making sure that the straps are loose! It sounds hard, but it is quite easy once you get the hang :!: (no pun intended). Given your Mum has a sore back due to the weight her boobs place on her muscles perhaps you should look at the front fasteners, some of these have very substantial backs and broad shoulder straps to help people with this problem. Linda

I have a size 44E and cannot live without my strapless bras, had to use bravissimo or simply be, or even jdwilliams, they cost a bit but well worth it.

    Hi All
thank you so much for your ideas. You really are all such a great bunch of people. I will look at all those options. One of them is bound to be trumps.
    Thanks once again

PS luckybug did the strapless version offer enough support? Think she is a 36F

like others have said, you might find that a front-fastening one may be easier.

I had problems with my shoulders and with not being able to reach far enough behid me to fasten one behind. I was really impressed when I went to a local specialist shop where they were used to people being all shapes, sizes and having all sorts of problems. They listened carefully to my difficulties and were able to come up with something that works for me. Might be worth seeing if there is anything locally to you - in my case they were able to walk straight over to what they thought would fit me, and were spot on!

I must admit that I wasn't keen on getting measured and fitted, but it has made a big difference to me .... and the money I paid was well worth it. In fact, am going again soon to see if they can come up with a front-fastening t-shirt bra, as the posture support i wear at the mo isn't really suitable for summery t-shirts.

    good luck with your search!
