my thumb's gone manky and I'm stressed out

I had my ruptured tendons in my left hand repaired a month ago. I had the plaster removed a week ago and the doc left the pin in my thumb. It was sticking out a little so in a couple of weeks it could be taken out (last time they used a pair of pliers!). They cut the pin so close to my thumb the top sticks into my skin. Its now so painful its untrue. I'm taking morphine which takes the edge off but I'm not sure it should be so painful. Now the pin has almost disappeared and the skin around it is all red.
I live in the Midlands but I still use my old hospital down south, its a 2 hour drive (not that I can drive at the mo). Not sure really what to do.
My hubbie can't really take time off work to take me anywhere because, just to add some extra stress, he's waiting to hear if he's going to be made redundant. (Don't get me started on what I think of his boss - last month he said he could have a large bonus which is now not going to happen and my hubbie's just brought in £100,000 profit for the company!!!!). Stress and RA is not a good combination!

Any suggestions apart from pulling the bedclothes over your head and hoping the world goes away?

NHS Helpline or do you have a local walk in centre.
Had to happen on a Bank holiday weekend didn't it.
Ice pack maybe,I don't know what I would do .
Sorry to be vague but hoping you get sorted sooner rather than later.

I would go to A&E - a real bore on a bank holiday weekend - but I could not be in such pain/agony and be so worried and not do anything.

I feel very sorry for you and hope that you get some attention very soon.

    Hi Jenzie,

    Ouch that sounds painful

Could you give your hospital down south a ring and talk to them about it as it doesn't sound right to me?

As Lindah pointed out these things always happen on Bank Holidays.

Sorry to hear about your husband too - maybe you should both get under the duvet and make the world go away

    Hi Jenzie

If you go to A & E early you might be lucky or like has been said before NHS Direct. I don't think you should have all that pain or have to put up with it. Please get checked out.

I know what stress you're going through with your hubby, we are in the same position so I'll keep my fingers crossed for us both. Do try not to get too stressed though it won't do you any good.

    Love

Hello ohhhh, that sounds really nasty! :? As the others have said, walk-in health centres or A&E sound the best bet at the moment.

I hope you soon start to feel better.

Hi Jenzie, seems your suffering a bit no end to the problems.
I would go to A+E if i where you or the local walk in centre.
It could be an infection starting but you should get it checked out.
