Hi folks
Well at long last after waiting 5 months I was seen at the Pain Clinic. I found it a very postive experience. The Consultant examined me and had a registrar with him, he asked her to feel my back muscles and said "this is what you see in people with a very long history of back pain, the muscles feel like bone" I asked if I'd get more Diazepam then, he said no with a laugh
He is increasing my Gabapentin from 1800mg to the max 3600mg a day and back on Amitryptiline  but not taking me off the Tramadol etc
When I said about the probs with the physio being scared to touch me, he is sending me to his own Nurse
, I feel special!!
Said I need another bit of time off work to let the meds do their stuff, so hopefully it will go past quick. But for those waiting for the Pain Clinic, I found it very helpful, going back in August.

Hi Alex,
It's so good to hear positive news especially about clinic visits.
Let's hope that Nursey can help you out too - she'll probably be making you exercise standing over you with a big whip in case you do any slacking

Dear star
So glad you have finally had your visit to the Pain Clinic and that it was positive.
I don't know how I felt after mine really. confused to say the least.
He asked me how tall I was. Now I ha ve always been 5.4 when i told him this, he laughed. When I got home, I measured my height it was 5.2. So where have those 2 inches gone?
I had another appointment come through for the 2nd Aug, be we are away, so they have to send me another one. Suppose they will tell me what is happening to me then. Better try and lose some more weight by then

I better not measure myself then, I think I'm 5ft, I'll be gutted if I've lost some inches, they already call me a Lollypopkin as in the Wizard of Oz at work, if I'm even shorter they'll be having fits0 -
Hi alex

Funnily enough I have lost an inch in the last year and I am wondering if it is due to my neck. Is their no end to the joys of arthur?

Shrinking voilets. Is this another name for us?
I've certainly lost 2 inches somewhere because I have just put a pair of newly turned up trousers again my 6 year old jeans I have always loved and they are longer. I was wondering why the backs were getting frayed.

Glad to hear you've had such a good experience with the pain clinic. I do hope you get good controll of your pain soon. Meantime make the most of your time off work, at least it's summertime.
My physio was going to recommend me but I broke my ankle a few weeks ago and it's been postponed. At our hospital you're seen by a consultant, psychologist, physio, occupational therapist and a nurse. Sounded a bit daunting to me but I'm hoping they'll take me on.0 -

Summertime you say, woke up this morning, knew it was teaming down before I even looked out the window. It was like torrential rain here today. Went to Morrisons and it was all blocked off at the fish bit at the entrance, turns out the rain was so heavy it burst through the roof and flooded the place! Hope the sun comes soon. But get this - my sciatica was killing me today, within an hour of taking the 4 horsepills it was gone, amazing. Nothing, not even a twinge. Hope this keeps up!0 -
Ecky,
Please, please tell me what pills for sciatica
I am going out of my head with it.

Hi Kath, I am on a plethora. The Tramadol helps great but they recently put me on Gabapentin, they truly are horsepills, blerdy massive! The max dose is 3600mg and they put me on 300mg x 3 per day after my fall. This was increased to 600mg x 3 within a couple of days as I was crawling on the floor, couldn't put my bum or leg down and was howling if any part of my bad leg touched the floor and that was with my TENS on max. Today the Dr asked how I was and I said I was still having problems but not at the severity before. He said they work well with Tramadol and requested my Dr put me up to the maximum 3600mg. I was a bit shocked, especially as I'm on so many other drugs and he wants me started again on the Amitryptiline. But honestly Kath, you know how it's that sharp stabbing pain all the way down your legs? Within an hour, not even a twinge, still nothing 6 hours later. I know it's the increase because you will know yourself when it hits you, nothing takes it away like that, so dramatically. Definitely worth speaking to your Dr. Skezier recommended another good lot to me, but these really are doing the trick. I have spinal stenosis and 3 bulging discs so you can imagine how bad the sciatica is. Tonight I am sitting completely pain free of sciatica for the first time in a year. I am just sitting here in total shock :shock:0 -

Lol, maybe I could put my dancing shoes on if my 3 year old stopped pinching them. She keeps raiding my wardrobe and coming out with size 4 pink mary janes on her tiny feet and trying to dance on the laminate flooring with them on.0 -

Hi Eck
I was put on Gabapentin same dossage as you and they really didn't do anything except give me terrible side affects. Have now been on Pregabaline for awhile and they seem to be doing the trick
taken with Clonazepam in the even I am just knocked out so I think I am going to just take half tablet Clonazepam instead. It is nearly 11 a.m in the morning and I still feel spaced out. Now really bad pain in my hip - now had injection in that on Monday. Oh, and my 2nd appointment has come through for the pain clinic 01.09. Betterstart making a list again.
Really glad you have had some relief from your pain. Hope it lasts.

Hi Kath, I know these aren't for everyone, but 2 days in, wake up with excruciating sciatica. Take the max dose and within 2 hours - nothing, zero. They do make me sleepy as I'm on Tramadol, diclofenac, doazepam and amytryptilne now but well worth it. Plus I know the longer I take them, the lethargy will ease as with the diazepam and tramdol.0 -
OK Ecky
I soon can get drowsy on the meds
so will be having a word with doc and
try to get something suitable.
thanks
