hi valval &jules1,yep i agree with you it would be nice working with colleages that understand what you are going through unfor tunately i dont ,i can practically hear the snide remarks now and i havent even been back yet,its a right bitchy place to work, back stabbing goes on all the time all ways after a new target, just try to ignore them ,thick skinned thats me but it does get through occasionally, anyway take it easy everybody and dont let the buggers get you down,

Hi, i have arthur of the spine and my job is very physical. I am a supervisor in a mailing house. It's standing for 8hours a day and a lot of bending and heavy lifting involved. Since i am in charge of a small group of staff, all male i might add, i have explained my situation to them and they fully understand that i need to get them to do the heavier jobs and i do the light duties. Jobs can include boxing up book with a weight limit of 15k or something as simple as enclosing invoices into envelopes. My manager is very understanding and has said, as long as i'm 'working' i can do what i feel i need to do. If i need to sit, well i find a job sitting down, if i need to have a walk, well i do my 'supervisor bit' and wander round doing quality checks. He is quite happy for me to turn up and just 'supervise' even if i can't actually do any production work. Our shop floor is actually in 2 sections, i run the small section and another supervisor runs the larger section. He always pops over to my side of the warehouse to make sure i'm ok.

The point i'm getting at is that apart from me, my entire shift is male! (one of them being my husband i might add) and when i'm having a bad day and hobbling around because i'm in pain and can't walk properly, although they all offer help they also take the micky out of me! Like we have a 20 min tea break, they all say, 'come on Carol, break will be over by the time you get to the tea room' or when it's home time they say 'quick, get in front of Carol or we'll never get out of here'! For me, that makes the pain more bearable, they turn the illness into something funny and although arthur certainly isn't funny, somehow being at work with the gys helps me deal with it. I find the times i can't deal with it and start getting depressed is when i'm alone and my mind starts working. For me, i will stay in work as long as i physically can.

    Love Carol

    Hi,

I've just turned 28 and have had my hip replaced due to OA. IT hasnt gone great and have nerve damamge which means i need to use at least one crutch and struggle with stairs - pretty much the same as before the op (although in far less pain as leg is numb!!)

I work as a teacher and have had to have 8 months off work. Now im back im finding the staff are being awful towards me and my condition. People find it highly amussing i cant walk unaided and call me names in front of the teenagers im about to teach. They think im unreasonable in asking to be downstairs all the time and they are constantly making remarks and being hurtful behind my back and to my face.

I's come to the conclusion im there to do my job and i can do that (possibly better) without having to socialise so much with these people during the day. I have my friends out of work who are there for me and understand. Just accepting that this is how it will be has helped me.

Sorry if this doesnt help - its just nice to get it off my chest !!

Crikey miss 1, its awful what you have to put up with, who are the adolesants (sp?) here, the kids or the teachers......my heart really does go out to you as i threw in the towel yesterday and i leave my job on Friday. i have had enough, i work in a small shop in town, have just come back from another 2 weeks sick, was welcomed back as "the wanderer"as well as a few other comments. i know its not nearly as bad as your situation, but the result is almost the same as i too has a THR in jan 09 and was told a few weeks ago that it was a failure and have just had an MRI scan, and they are also looking at my discs incase OA is in them too.
at least from Friday i can concerntrate on ME ME ME !!! and not have to struggle out of bed when the alarm goes off and then drag myself up the stairs at work (there is no lift there and all the stock has to be manhandled up there) but then i am going to have the struggle to get benefits as i have left of my own accord, but i dont mind, at least i'm out of there....you take care and remember, you DONT have to put up with this...lots of love Sally.xxx :D

Miss I, That is awful. I would make an official complaint to the 'headie' and take these mindless idiots down a peg or two. Is that the social skills they are teaching the youth of today?

I feel so angry when I read posts like yours, as if life isn't hard enough.

Another thought hit them with your crutch!!!

Hi miss_1 Jesus that’s terrible, look are you in a union? if there is one where you work if so I would join it, also are you classed as disabled, I imagine you are as this adds a string or two to your bow, anyway is there a chance you can get any of the abuse on tape or film on your mobile phone maybe?, I only ask as if you could this would be proof positive of aggressive discrimination and would be worth it’s weight in gold if you could. :
