Hey, how is everyone today?
Is anyone else struggling to function in this horrible cold weather? Normally I'm really good at waking up early, but these past couple of weeks I've found myself waking up at 7, 8, realising that I can't move my joints because they've all locked into place and when I do move them they hurt like hell, so I just pull the duvet cover over me and go back to sleep and don't re-surface until about 11. This is not good considering I sometimes have to be in uni in the mornings
.
How are you all coping in this weather?

HI Caroline
he he!! You made me laugh! Not good if you are supposed to be at uni eh?!
I am not too bad, but my 'clock' is still on summer-time too and I have a sneezy cold
I hope you get your energy levels back
Love

Hi, my joints are terrible in this cold and damp weather, I am up at 7am feeding my cat hobbling around, then I take painkillers and snuggle down under the duvet until about 10.30am, that's my excuse love Jaspercatxx0

Hi there,
Yes I have really slowed down over the past month and am finding it difficult to stay awake in the day. I used to be up at 6.30 each day and now unless I set an alarm I could sleep until the afternoon.
I hope you feel a bit better shortly, it must be hard to deal with on top of your studies!

Hi,
I hate the wet weather and my knees hates it even more, I swear I can tell the weather better than the BBC just by knee pain!
I have found it easier to sit my bottom half in a sleeping bag in the evenings as the warmth helps!
Try wearing thermals as they keep the joints toastie warm even if they are not great looking!0 -
Hi, its not been too bad here, although today its been a bit foggy and and damp. I don't know it thats the reason, but my neck is aching quite a bit tonihgt!
I'm sorry you'r feeling so under the weather. I suppose at this time of year its only to be expected and all these bugs that seem to be doing the rounds. Take care love Sue0 -
I used to blame the weather but then couldn't explain why I had good days in the damp/cold or even heat.
Personally on a bad, painful day - I just look around for something to blame - could even be hubby if he's in the firing line  During good spells and bad we can always look for causation but after 23 years of this I feel it's just the nature of the beast (in my experience)

Glad I made you laugh Toni hehe, and I hope your cold disappears soon.
Zecharia, the sleeping bag sounds like a great idea! I find myself living in my dressing gown nowadays, but it does nothing for my legs at all. I don't have a sleeping bag, but I do have a couple of fleece blankets, so I'll have to throw them over my legs when I've settled down for the evening me thinks.
Lindalegs, you made me laugh there, your poor husband tehe. Definitely down to the beast making things difficult for us no matter what time of year it is. I'm sure there have been sunny days where I've felt rubbish too. I can def say I get a lot stiffer in the colder weather though.
Hope you are all feeling a bit better this evening.
Lots of love,

I agree this weather doesn't help, but at any time of the year I blame either the weather or the steroids!

I find that the damp weather gets to me. I can cope with the cold to a point but if it's damp as well I'm done for. I feel like I'm creaking all the time lately. Still, I'm snuggled up with my shawl at the moment so I'm happy.0

mmm, just a thought but wondering if its not actually the cold physically affecting our joints, but the depressing damp, bleak days and long, long, nights that bring our mood down and so make everything seem worse than it is
Friends say going abroad to warmer climates in winter helps their arthritis, but it also lifts their spirits to be in the warmth and sunshine thereby giving them a real boost to their overall feeling of well-being
Ah well, no winter sun for me - so I'll mollycoddle myself snuggled cosily on my sofa, fire burning brightly, hot toddy in my hands, and watch some escapism tv..........

The colder weather makes my body feel worse.I feel the cold anyway but at the moment I find it really hard to do things unless the heating is on and I have a couple of jumpers. It is as if my body has given up.Obviously I cannot put on the heating for all hours(costs too much) so not much is getting done during the day.
Best wishes

I have recently bought a hot wax bath (only big enough for one hand or foot at any one time); it is amazingly soothing as the heat penetrates the joints. I have had hot wax treatment in hospital as part of physio services and it was also recommended to me recently by my OT whom I've been attending following post op hand surgery. Apparently hot wax treatment is an ancient Chinese method of easing the pain in arthritic joints and I have to say the feeling of heat is fabulous!
I have the wax bath on timer so I can use it first thing in the morning.
The baths/ wax are not very expensive to buy and well worth it. Would make a good Xmas gift suggestion!

Hi Caroline
I've been very achy this past week. Joints sore etc - I'm sure it's down to the weather. You'll have to get to bed earlier especially if you have to go to uni!!
I get my hubby to bring me in a cup of tea in the morning which helps to get me mobile. I have to wrap up well otherwise joints tend to stiffen up.
I'm wishing the winter over already and it hasn't even started yet!

I don't know if it's the weather, or whether it's just I notice the pains more now i've been diagnosed but these last few wks I've been in terrible pain. Especially of a morning, due to my arms seizing up in the night.
I have a furry blanket I pull over me when i'm watching tv of an evening and the last few nights I've been putting in on the bed too. I've bought a wooly hat scarf and gloves set to wear when I leave the house. My thinking is if I keep my neck warm my arms will work better. Not sure I've noticed a difference but I'm toasty warm.
One thing I do know is I am finding it hard to drag myself out of bed in a morning. Good job I've an understanding hubby who will get up and sort the kids out for me while I have an extra 10 mins in which I can exercise my fingers to try and get the blood pumping through my arms.

Sounds like you all have the right idea with the big blankets, wooly hats and scarfs etc, and yes it is a shame the heating costs so much
(. I moved house in September with 2 of my friends and since then we've had the heating on once, yes once, because the other two are so desperate to save money and not waste it on heating so I now have to cope with the cold/dampness etc with a duvet wrapped around me...think I may invest in a mini heater!
Definitely going to have to invest in a bunch of thick jumpers to get me through the winter.
Jackie, you are prob right that the thought of being in the sun brightens up our moods and therefore makes it easier for us to cope and the cold weather brings us down and our bodies too.
Much love

Hi, I feel really achy today and the pains seem extra sharp, don't know if it is the weather, as its been quite nice, but still, its damper than it was, so thats probably it! Makes me feel really old! I feel as if the last 5 years or so have flown by when I was asleep.
