hi, My name is Diane i'm 53 and i have advanced osteoarthritis of my right hip.
I am in a fair bit of pain these days and i used to be quite active until recently, i have been offered no treatment other than paracetamol from my doctor.

    Hi Diane

Welcome, I'm also new to this forum and you have probably arrived here looking for help and advice as I did.
Ask your doctor to refer you to a specialist and then things will hopefully move forward.
I suffer with arthritis of the knees, today was bad I had to pull myself out of the car as the pain was unbelievable, but once i had them straightened they worked better :o I managed to hobble around town.
Good days and Bad days, My wife said the pain would get easier as my wallet got lighter :) She did her best to ease the pain as we walked arounf town.

Hi Diane, and welcome!!! this is a very friendly and supportive site, as you will find out. I hope you can get to see a rheumy, I dont really understand all the ways and means of it, but my GP initially said I couldnt be referred as it is "only OA" I dont know if that is a normal procedure. I eventually had a rheumatoid factor test, which was positive, and was then referred. I had also seen 2 other doctors int he practice who told me the same thing, no referral for OA. One did offer me a referral to pain clinic, but that never happened.
I think you have to make a fuss, if paracetemol isnt enough then you need something else to help. Good luck, take care Jay

    Hi Diane and welcome

Sorry you had to find us. Your doc. sounds like mine so you have my sincere sympathy. Painkillers and anti inflammatory drugs seem to be the only thing on offer for some of us with OA. Have had trouble with my hip and knees for years! It is frustrating to feel that nothing is being done to help. I have quickly learned on here that you sometimes do have to keep pestering for help even if it's not in your nature to do so. It is good advise.
Hope you are not having too much pain at the moment, take care.

I would like to say a big thankyou for the warm welcome i have received from everyone that has replied to my intro thread.

I must admit i find my arthritis difficult to deal with it's not just the pain but the frustration of not being able to do things. I have only been diagnosed for a year but it seems like a lifetime.

I'll stop moaning now and will hopefully chat to you all soon
